cutest kid ever! (if i am exaggerating, let me know)

Postby holdfast » April 23rd, 2008 1:49 am

so you may have heard me talk about the little boy that tutor in english, and i wanted to show you guys a picture! (i had a picture of him and i together, but the me part of the picture was pretty awful, so i'll just share this one)

(edit) today i had a really funny conversation with 승진(english name: harrie) at the preschool where i work. generally we speak in a mix of english and korean so i'll write the conversation exactly how it happened:

random kid: hey miss emily, i'm 4
승진: i'm 5
me: how old am i?
승진: mmm.. one hundred!
me: ah!
(again, hysterical laughter)
me: no i'm twenty four.
승진: twenty four? miss katie (his teacher) is twenty nine.
me: see, i'm not 아줌마..

a little later:

me: 100....... (while shaking my head in disbelief)
승진: (still laughing hysterically) 아줌마..
승진: (suddenly becomes serious and polite) 아니요.
me: 그럼 뭐?

haha! i was just kidding, but when he thought i was offended he quickly became apologetic and started using polite speech. it was cute.

I just about fell over, victim of a severe cute attack! Good on you for speaking Korean with him and making him feel at home (which he clearly is, looking at that happy expression).

Can you send him here for a month or so? His parents can have my daughter in exchange. (She is equally cute in my unbiased opinion.) Although that might pose some problems in the preschool, since she's nine years old...

another funny story to add from a few days ago:

i was talking to harrie in korean and another kid from his class came over to us and asked me, "why do you speak spanish?"

hahahaha..... they are all learning spanish so i guess they assume anything they can't understand must be spanish. but at least they understand that there are other languages. it was really funny though.

aww, such a cute kid!

I was amazed that I actually understood most of it but this bit got me:

Me: 나 슬퍼..
승진: (suddenly becomes serious and polite) 아니요.
me: 그럼 뭐?

What does 나 슬퍼 mean? 나 is "me"
No, you're not. You are not an 아줌마.
holdfast: Then what?

I feel that I'm missing the funniest lines TT_TT

Good job
-> 잘 했어요

I want to say it to my sister
