Can you elaborate? I've been interested in trying to read a Korean fantasy novel, especially one with 무협 themes, but I never knew which author or series to try. Is it good?

I searched for some info and this page from the publisher's website came up: http://dasool.com/bbs/board.php?bo_table=newbook&wr_id=2467&page=6. It sounds kind of interesting, but you shouldn't necessarily judge a book by the cover or the blurb on the back....

Can you give us any further report? I'm really interested :)

actually I was hoping someone else could elaborate for us I don't have these, although if the author is as good as the artwork, then it would be well worth it.

Oh, ok.

First of all, 무협 is a genre of stories about semi-historical, semi-legendary fighters that use supernatural powers and follow a certain code of conduct. There's a wikipedia article, but it focuses pretty much on the Chinese literature: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuxia.

And the book you posted is apparently the fifth book in a series called 허부대공 by 방수윤.

Here's the basic info about the book.

Title: Heobudaegong
Subtitle: Dashi Jinseon-guro

Author: Bang Soo-yoon
Price : 8,000 Won
Publisher: Dreambooks

Those look good. I love Wuxia, so it'll be interesting to see them in Korean.

I'm also wondering if you knew any horror/semi fantasy stories that take place in a modern setting? I just read Island (about supernatural events happening in jeju Island) and loved it

It looks like the Korean wikipedia has a lot more information about Korean 무협 novels. Unfortunately, the content is pretty advanced...

허부대공 1권: ISBN-10 : 8954221459
허부대공 2권: ISBN-10 : 8954221467
허부대공 3권: ISBN-10 : 8954222277
허부대공 4권: ISBN-10 : 8954222285
허부대공 5권: ISBN-10 : 8954224369

These books average about 350 something pages each, and the series is not finished, so picking it up seems like no small undertaking. One of the authors last works, 용검전기, went to 17 volumes!

If you check it out, let us know how the book is.

I got all this info from http://www.kyobobook.co.kr. It's a quick resource for finding out about Korean books. You have to use Internet Explorer to view the site, though.
