Dancing at DMZ and Namdaemun (?)

Postby SiEd » June 24th, 2008 2:10 am

Only tangentially Korean-related: it's about this guy Matt Harding who dances (very weirdly, imo) all around the world.

The relevant parts for us are 1:22 when he dances at the DMZ and 2:49 where he dances with a group of young people in front of what looks like a wintry lit Namdaemun (I believe he made this journey during the winter of 2007, before the tragic burning - please correct me if this is incorrect, though). A very touching video overall.

If you're referring to the clip (whose link you forgot to put in your post ;) ) about the b-boying dance-off at the DMZ, that was awesome - movie voice: "serious moves happened on that occasion".

On the other hand, silly-dancing in front of a DMZ guard has its own merits as well.

In a similar vein, I'm pretty surprised that I didn't see even one b-boy/b-girl in the Seoul shot of Matt's video. Maybe they had better sense ;).

Ahah, I love that video :D

Actually my main reason for learning Korean was, at the time, Breakdance :D (b-boying ^_^). So this video totally pleases me.
The north/south korean issues + the language + breaking. Awesome work

It's a film by Benson Lee (Mondo Paradiso Productions) & Charlie Shin (Weeping Buddha Productions & Cartel Creative).

Starring:

B-boy Ducky (Drifterz Crew) as South Korean Guard 1
B-boy Trickx (Drifterz Crew) as South Korean Guard 2

B-boy Physicx (Rivers Crew) as North Korean Guard 1
B-boy Hong10 (Drifterz Crew) as North Korean Guard 2

B-boy Bongs (Drifterz Crew) as North Korean Officer

Johnjay Chon (Cartel Creative) as South Korean Officer

Filming Location: Cheol-won Gun, Gyongi-do, Republic of South Korea - the same film-set as JSA ( Joint Security Area/Gongdong Gyeongbi Guyeok, 2000 http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0260991/ )

Gotta love it :D

I loved these videos as well :)

Both "Where The Hell Is Matt?" and "Planet B-Boy: Run DMZ".

Especially the b-boys in the planet b-boy movie clip are amazing because they are wearing these very uncomfortable costumes and still showing us some great moves (although not their best ^^)

Btw, heartborne, if you ever come to Seoul,

b-boy physicx teaches in their crew school : )
2 classes every week (sat & sun) , and it only costs about USD 100 a month!

Thanks :D

And yeah, most crews have classes available for people to attend, and the classes are usually not too expensive :) But some classes are too crowded, since they don't do too many classes a week. But yeah, you basically have a very wide choice! :)
