In my recent blog entry, I posted a video of one of the boys from the orphanage talking about the puppy giving birth. In case you missed it, here's the video link again.

In the blog entry, I gave you two challenges.

1. How many puppies did he say were being born

2. Can you make a transcript? Even if you're not up to typing the Korean out, you try translating it into English. Translations don't have to be exact..that's usually pretty hard, but give it a whirl and use the spoiler tags so everyone can take a shot!

Don't forget there are two challenges! Max, did you hear how many puppies he said were being born?

Check the blog post for some of the vocab I think will help you. Maybe just try to recognize when he uses the word "놓다" or "새끼"

I was hoping this wouldn't be too dificult I think a lot of the grammar has been covered in KClass lessons! Granted, the podcasts are a more controlled environment, but he doesn't say anything too difficult...it's just all in 반말 (informal politeness)!

I was only able to pick out the most basic of words, I guess this is proof that I am not too good at Korean.

I think it's quite funny that whenever you asked the little boy, "Who is Dooley?". He replies "DOOLEY!". Ha ha I really liked the video but I must admit I didn't understand everything...whenever he tells you how many puppies were born it sounded a load of slurring!

I know, it's really bad. I'm so embarrassed now.

Thanks for giving it a shot! Don't be embarrassed. I couldn't give a 100% Korean transcript either, because he mumbles a sentense I'm not absolutely sure about..but every time I listen, I get a tiny little bit more. I just thought it would be a fun and relevant practice exercise.

I'll post the real transcript after a few days.

I'll give you about 24 more hours to get your transcripts up! (Maybe a little bit more than that for those of you who will see this later due to time zones) Remember...even a rough guess in English is still great practice. I'll even start you off with the first line:

Here are the vocab hints once more:

강아지 - dog (yes, 개 is “dog” but people refer to their pets as 강아지)
새끼 - baby animal
낳다 - to give birth
설명하다 - to explain (in this case, I say “설명 해 줘” (설명 해 주세요)
아직 - not yet
(이름을) 정하다 - to decide on (a name)

This may have been the biggest hurdle. Give a shot at translating it! I'll post that after a few more days.

Wow! I just watched this video (a few times) and well i didn't understand most of it but it's easier while reading the transcript with it. ㅎㅎ, the boy's so excited ^^
I think your korean sounds really good too!

I'll give a try at translating though....with the help of the online korean dictionary :

I don't know how i did but that was a lot of fun! I had a lot of trouble with this line though:
어쨌든 강아지는 지금 둘리가 새끼를 여섯 마리 낳고 있어
I translated it word by word and got something like
"anyways puppy now dooley baby animal 6 birth is"

and I wasn't sure how to translate 인데...
