The World's Podcast

Postby maxiewawa » February 23rd, 2009 9:28 am

The World's daily podcast for Feb 19 features a story on something close to all our hearts: the Korean language. Specifically the problems that DPRK refugees have when coming to Han-Guk.

Don't have a link to the mp3, but have a look here: http://www.theworld.org/podcasts

The podcast you're looking for is "Latest Edition". And it's Feb 19's show, about 20 minutes in. It's on the feed.

Dillup-sumnida. <--- Not sure of spelling. Or the meaning! But it's a Northern word I learnt from the show.

I'm not sure if I got you right but the 19th of February edition of "Latest Edition" doesn't seem to be about Korea, except that Hillary Clinton visited South Korea.

Instead, by using the search engine, I found the following two podcasts:
1. http://www.theworld.org/node/24623 (the two Koreas divided by language (that's from the 19th of February 2009 indeed and the one you are probably talking of)
2. http://www.theworld.org/korean-refugees (about the North Korean refugees, but that's about one year old)

The phrase you've heard in the podcast was 일 없읍니다, which means word by word, "there's no issue"

This week's "The World In Words" podcast is almost entirely on the Korean language.

http://www.theworld.org/pod/language/WIWpodcast49.mp3

Part of it is a rehash of the above one, but there are some new stories. Some of it is quite heartbreaking, but worth listening to all the same.
