Wishing "Meaningful and happy memories" to a frien

Postby iDoof » October 12th, 2011 3:32 am

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if this is at all correct? I am giving a friend a photo album for her birthday and I want to write the following simple message: "I hope this year will be filled with many meaningful and happy memories!"

올해는 의미가 있고 아주 즐거운 추억들을 많이 만들길 바란다!

Is this ok? Any suggestions to make it sound more natural/poetic/meaningful are much appreciated.

As usual, you guys are amazing. Thanks for your time.

Hello,

I'm Jaehwi from Koreanclass101.com

Your sentence is so good that your friend will understand it without any problems : ) But let me help you by correcting so that it sounds more naturally.

올해에는 의미있고 즐거운 추억으로 가득하길 바래!

1. 올해는 is good, but if you add the particle 에, it emphasize the meaning of 'this year'.
2. You can say 가득하다 to mean 'to be filled with', so I used the verb instead of 만들다 meaning making.
3. For the sentence-ending particle, 바란다 sounds like making order or a little bit manly. Usually men use this particle to other men, not to women. If you use the particle ㅣ (i) (바라+ㅣ -> 바래), it sounds more friendly. It means the same thing.

I believe that your friend would love the photo album and your Korean sentence.

Thank you.
