드리도록 하겠습니다

Postby orbiter » April 12th, 2011 1:47 am

I always hear this on the radio: "드리도록 하겠습니다".
e.g. 보내드리도록 하겠습니다
설명을 드리도록 하겠습니다
전해 드리도록 하겠습니다

1) What is the difference between "드리도록 하겠습니다" and "드리겠습니다"...?

2) Can we use it in other tenses e.g. "드리도록 하셨습니다"; "드리도록 하고 있습니다"

3) I'm thinking that this structure denotes politeness, so there won't be a "주도록 하겠습니다"? or a "드리도록 했어"?

Will appreciate any help on this, thank you!

~~도록 means like "in order to" and can imply "will try to"

도와 드리도록 하겠습니다 - I will try to help -- will try to be of help -- in order to give help I will

-도록 in itself is not honorific

그 일를 하도록 해 - try to do that work (get that work done)

you can find -도록 in naver dictionary

yes it should work fine with other tenses

other meanings include "to the point of" or "to the extent of"

Hi, guys.
I'll take the rest. ;)

Same.
The former one sounds more polite a bit.

orbiter wrote:2) Can we use it in other tenses e.g. "드리도록 하셨습니다"; "드리도록 하고 있습니다"

드리도록 하셨습니다 doesn't make sense.
Because,
드리다 is a humble version of 주다.
So, the one who is honored from 'me' by using 하셨습니다 can't be the subject of the verb 드리다.
It only works if the one who receives is the highest and the one who gives is lower than the one who receives but is higher than me.
Could you understand me? :)

드리도록 하고 있습니다 is okay to use.

주도록 하겠습니다 is okay too.
The one who receives must be in lower position than the listener.

드리도록 했어 is also okay.
In this case, the one who receives is in higher position than the person who gives, the listener and me.

Hope this helps.
Sean

Yes - well understood! Kind of incongruous like saying '너도 하셨습니까'

Thanks Sean!
