너가 오히려 매일 술만 마시잖아요!

Postby zgxnli » June 4th, 2009 12:12 pm

In the sentence "너가 오히려 매일 술만 마시잖아요!" what does the phrase "마시잖아요" mean?

Does it mean 'drink'?

Then, what does "잖아" function as?

Thank you.

마시잖아요 is a short form of 마시지 않아요

매일 마시잖아요?
You drink everyday, don't you?

잖아 makes the verb emphasized by negative question form.
It's called 반어법(irony).

Not sure if I can link it, but here goes a try. It's from Intermediate College Korean By Clare You, Eunsu Cho (p. 101, p.5)
