찜질방, 목욕탕, sauna

Postby matthew254 » May 18th, 2008 4:17 am

I think an honest approach to this might take the giggling out of some foreigners when they talk or hear about these 목욕탕. I'm comfortable in them but then again, I had my mother-in-law school me in all things 목욕탕 because (obviously) she couldn't be there with me.

Anyways, so maybe
    history
    procedure/practice
    commonality
    relative price
    sanitation
    quick sleeping options
    policies on foreigners
.pdf artwork that has the street/banner signs
    comparison/similarities to Japan's sauna rooms
    success overseas (?)
    pitfalls to avoid
    taboos
    acceptable "weirdness"

i especially like this topic because, in my limited experience, people are sharply divided between whether they like or dislike them. 찜질방 is like NASCAR in America - you either absolutely love it or you can't stand it. no in-betweeners.

Matthew, you're in luck, we actually just did our 목욕탕 lesson last week! And as it turns out, 민경 is an expert (it's a family business). It'll be out later in the summer, so I hope you enjoy it! :)
