sporting events--cheers and vocab

Postby harumi » April 27th, 2009 2:04 pm

Hello!

I recently attended a v-ball game in Japan....Japan vs. Korea. The Samsung and Hyundai teams came down and I sat in the Korean cheering section. It was a bit awkward to be
one of the only non-Koreans there, but it was really fun!

The Hyundai team literally had a bus of supporters! There was a mascot, a
guy dressed in a white suit leading the cheers, a drummer, and several enthusiastic high schoolers.

There were a bunch of cheers they were doing, but I had no idea what they were saying....I would love to see some video lessons on cheers done at sporting events....or even words people shout out during the game.....

Any help would be great....I wanna cheer with everyone next time, too......
Thank you!!!

ps: the two Korean teams I saw

here we are. a small, but lively cheering section! i wish someone told me to wear a blue shirt, too...

harumi :) kyuri :)

Personally, I'm not a huge baseball fan so I don't follow the baseball games nor do I go to the games to watch the players play, but I found these pages on Naver that introduce some of the cheering songs ^^

Please have a look at these web pages :) You can listen to the songs there. : )

kyuree,

반가워요! :)

사실은, 일본사람이 아니에요. 지금, 일본에서 영어를 가르치고있어요.

My family is originally from Japan and Okinawa….but we have been
in Hawaii for four generations and growing. I’m sorry I can’t
say that in Korean yet…. still a beginner....

현우선생님,

고맙습니다! 비디오를 너무 재미있었어요! :D
Cheering looks like serious business in Korea!

When crowds get angry, do they ever yell things out like, "unfair!" or
"bad call!" or anything like that?

When I was at the volleyball game, the crowd said something every time
the ball was served.....it sounded like 맞아....but it wasn't....

Then when the Korean team received the ball, at first, I thought
everyone was counting.....but I think the words may have been for
something like "pass/receive," "set," and "spike/kill." When you don't understand
so well, these are the types of narratives you create in your head......

Any insight from anyone would be nice.....
Thank you!
