INTRODUCTION
Junsu: Hi everyone. Iโ€™m Junsu.
Mihyeon: ์•ˆ๋…•ํ•˜์„ธ์š”. ๋ฏธํ˜„์ž…๋‹ˆ๋‹ค.
Hyunwoo: And I am Hyunwoo. It Should Be Okay. Junsu, do you think this is a good title that shows what we are going to learn today?
Junsu: ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Hyunwoo: Yeah it should be okay right?
Mihyeon: ๋„ค. ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Hyunwoo: Yeah it should be okay. Itโ€™s a great phrase actually. It shows how optimistic you are. I am going to be broke in a month but it should be okay. I donโ€™t think I will pass the exam but I will be okay. I left my wallet in the taxi last night but it should be okay.
Mihyeon: ์–ด, ๋„ˆ๋ฌด ๋‚™์ฒœ์ ์ด์—์š”.
Junsu: Yeah you are way too optimistic.
Hyunwoo: Yeah I was just imagining. I mean the situations where you can say ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ it should be okay but of course you can not only use ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ in these pathetic situations but you can also use ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ in more normal situations like
Junsu: Will Mihyeon like this present?
Hyunwoo: Umm it should be okay ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”. Yeah just like that. So I am sure itโ€™s very clear now what we are going to learn today in this lesson. So Mihyeon ์˜ค๋Š˜ ๋ญ ๋ฐฐ์šธ๊ฑด์ง€ ํ•œ ๋ฒˆ๋งŒ ๋” ์„ค๋ช…ํ•ด ์ฃผ์‹œ๊ฒ ์–ด์š”?
Mihyeon: ๋„ค. ์˜ค๋Š˜์„ ์ถ”์ธก์„ ๋‚˜ํƒ€๋‚ด๋Š” ๋ง์„ ๋ฐฐ์šธ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Junsu: Yeah today we are going to learn how to express assumption or supposition.
Hyunwoo: And we are going to learn the question version and the answer version as well. So before we go into todayโ€™s lesson, letโ€™s review a little bit. I like reviews. I love reviews. I believe thatโ€™s the key in learning any language and thatโ€™s the reason we have review tracks on our site. If you have the premium feed, you can download the review track for each of our lessons and the review track is composed of the key words and phrases that were introduced in the lesson and we ask you how to say something in Korean, in English and you have some time to guess it for yourself and say it and you have the answer following right after. So itโ€™s a very good practice for you after you listen to the main audio track.
Mihyeon: ์•„, ๊ทธ๋Ÿผ ๋ฐฐ์šฐ์ž๋งˆ์ž ๋ณต์Šตํ•  ์ˆ˜ ์žˆ๊ฒ ๋„ค์š”?
Hyunwoo: Yes exactly and that phrase that you just said is what we learned in the last lesson. ๋ฐฐ์šฐ์ž๋งˆ์ž, ํ•˜์ž๋งˆ์ž, ๊ฐ€์ž๋งˆ์ž, ์˜ค์ž๋งˆ์ž. ์ž๋งˆ์ž means as soon as. Okay so where is todayโ€™s dialogue taking place and who is it between ๋ฏธํ˜„์”จ?
Mihyeon: ๋„ค ๋ฒˆ์งธ ๋ ˆ์Šจ์— ๋‚˜์™”๋‹ค๊ฐ€ ๋ณด์ด์ง€ ์•Š๋˜ ๋ฏผ์ˆ˜๊ฐ€ ๋Œ์•„์™”์–ด์š”.
Junsu: And since they are friends, they are using intimate politeness level.
Hyunwoo: Okay ๊ทธ๋Ÿผ ๋“ค์–ด ๋ณผ๊นŒ์š”?

POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Hyunwoo: ๋ฏธํ˜„์”จ, ์ž˜ ๋“ค์–ด ๋ณด์…จ์–ด์š”?
Mihyeon: ๋„ค, ์žฌ๋ฏธ์žˆ์—ˆ์–ด์š”.
Hyunwoo: ๋ฏธํ˜„์”จ๋Š” did you ever break anybodyโ€™s stuff?
Mihyeon: ๋งŽ์ฃ .
Hyunwoo: Oh really?
Junsu: What did you break?
Mihyeon: ํŠนํžˆ ๋ญ ํ•ธ๋“œํฐ ๊ฐ™์€ ๊ฑฐ?

Hyunwoo: But you know, cell phones these days are very strong and even if you sit on it on a sofa, it doesnโ€™tโ€ฆ
Mihyeon: ๋„ค. ์ œ๊ฐ€ ๋„ˆ๋ฌด ๋ฌด๊ฑฐ์›Œ์„œ ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š”.
Hyunwoo: No you are not heavy.
Junsu: Yeah I am sure itโ€™s not your fault. The cell phone was probably weak or already broken.
Mihyeon: ๋งž์•„์š”.
Junsu: Maybe Hyun woo sat on it first.
Hyunwoo: Ah okay thatโ€™s a bad sign again. ๋‘ ์‚ฌ๋žŒ์ด ๋‹ค์‹œ ์ €๋ฅผ ๊ดด๋กญํžˆ๋ ค ํ•˜๊ณ  ์žˆ์Šต๋‹ˆ๋‹ค. ๊ทธ๋Ÿฐ๋ฐ here who broke whose what?
Mihyeon: ๋ฏผ์ˆ˜๊ฐ€ ์ •ํ˜ธ ์นด๋ฉ”๋ผ๋ฅผ ๊ณ ์žฅ ๋ƒˆ๋„ค์š”.

Mihyeon: ์˜ˆ. ๋ฏผ์ˆ˜๊ฐ€ ๊ณ ์ณ ์ฃผ๋ฉด ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Junsu: Yeah we assume it will be okay.
Hyunwoo: As long as you pay for the repair fee. In fact, this sad story is inspired by my unfortunate sister whose brother which is me didnโ€™t forgive her and let her pay for the repair fee after she dipped my camera in Cola.
Junsu: Really in Cola-Cola?
Hyunwoo: I have to apologize to my sister for not just forgetting about it but it was really expensive to repair the camera.
Junsu: How much did it cost?
Hyunwoo: It cost 15๋งŒ์›.
Mihyeon: ๊ทผ๋ฐ ๊ทธ ์นด๋ฉ”๋ผ ์•ž์œผ๋กœ๋„ ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„๊นŒ์š”?
Hyunwoo: It should be okay. ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Junsu: Are you sure?
Hyunwoo: ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”. Itโ€™s still working really well. So it should be okay. Okay so before we have to talk any more about my unfortunate sister who had to pay 15๋งŒ์› for one can of coca-cola, letโ€™s go into todayโ€™s vocabulary words.
VOCAB LIST
Hyunwoo: ์˜ค๋Š˜์˜ ์ฒซ ๋ฒˆ์งธ ๋‹จ์–ด๋Š” ๋ญ์ฃ , ๋ฏธํ˜„์”จ?
Mihyeon: ๋ฐฉ๊ธˆ
Junsu: ๋ฐฉ๊ธˆ
Mihyeon: ๋ฐฉ๊ธˆ [slowly - broken down by syllable] ๋ฐฉ๊ธˆ [natural native speed]
Junsu: And what does this word mean?
Mihyeon: ์กฐ๊ธˆ ์ „์—, ์ง€๊ธˆ ๋ง‰.
Junsu: It means just now or just a minute ago.
Hyunwoo: ์˜ˆ๋ฅผ ์ข€ ๋“ค์–ด ์ฃผ์‹œ๊ฒ ์–ด์š”?
Mihyeon: ํ˜„์šฐ์”จ, ๋ฐฉ๊ธˆ ๊ฒฝ์ฐฐ์„œ์—์„œ ์ „ํ™” ์™”์–ด์š”. ํ˜„์šฐ์”จ ์ฐพ๋˜๋ฐ์š”?

Hyunwoo: ์–ด, ์€ํ–‰์ด์š”.
Junsu: Youโ€™ve been to the bank and did that make the police call?
Mihyeon: ์ข€ ์ด์ƒํ•œ๋ฐ? ๋ฐฉ๊ธˆ ์€ํ–‰์— ๊ฐ€์„œ ๋ญ ํ•œ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”?
Junsu: What did you just do in the bank?
Hyunwoo: Actually I made the people at the bank angry by sitting there for 4 hours just reading the magazines there.
Junsu: Oh no!
Mihyeon: ์—†์–ด ๋ณด์—ฌ.
Hyunwoo: Do I look poor?
Junsu: Well little bit yeah.
Hyunwoo: Yeah okay I am sorry. Please let me borrow some of your money or at least some magazines Mihyeon.
Mihyeon: ์นœ๊ตฌ๊ฐ€ ๋‹ค ๋นŒ๋ ค ๊ฐ”์–ด์š”.
Hyunwoo: ๊ทธ๋Ÿฌ๋ฉด ๋ˆ„๊ตฌํ•œํ…Œ ๋ˆ์„ ๋นŒ๋ ค์•ผ ๋˜์ฃ ?
Junsu: Donโ€™t look at me.
Hyunwoo: Who should I borrow money from? Okay I give up. ๊ทธ ๋‹ค์Œ ๋‹จ์–ด๋Š” ๋ญ์ฃ ?

Junsu: ์Ÿ๋‹ค
Mihyeon: ์Ÿ๋‹ค [slowly - broken down by syllable] ์Ÿ๋‹ค [natural native speed]
Junsu: And this word means to spill.
Mihyeon: ์ฑ…์ƒ์— ์ปคํ”ผ๋ฅผ ์Ÿ์•˜์–ด์š”.
Junsu: I spilled coffee on my desk.
Mihyeon: ์˜ท์— ๋ฌผ์„ ์Ÿ์•„์„œ ์˜ท์ด ๋‹ค ์ –์—ˆ์–ด์š”.
Junsu: I spilled water on my clothes so I got wet.
Mihyeon: ํ˜„์šฐ์”จ, ๋งฅ์ฃผ ์Ÿ์„ ๊ฒƒ ๊ฐ™์•„์š”. ์กฐ์‹ฌํ•˜์„ธ์š”.
Junsu: Yeah Hyunwoo, it looks like you are going to spill the beer. Be careful.
Hyunwoo: Okay I will be careful and whatโ€™s the next word?
Mihyeon: ๊ณ ์žฅ ๋‚˜๋‹ค
Junsu: ๊ณ ์žฅ ๋‚˜๋‹ค
Mihyeon: ๊ณ ์žฅ ๋‚˜๋‹ค [slowly - broken down by syllable] ๊ณ ์žฅ ๋‚˜๋‹ค [natural native speed]
Junsu: So it means to break, to not work.
Hyunwoo: Junsu do you have anything thatโ€™s broken?
Junsu: My cell phone is actually kind of broken.
Hyunwoo: Kind of broken ๋ฌด์Šจ ๋œป์ด์—์š”? ์–ด๋–ป๊ฒŒ ๊ณ ์žฅ์ด ๋‚˜๋ฉด kind of broken์ด์—์š”?
Junsu: It works sometimes but sometimes it doesnโ€™t work. So itโ€™s kind of broken.
Hyunwoo: I see. ์ ˆ๋ฐ˜ ๊ณ ์žฅ ๋‚œ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š” ์ ˆ๋ฐ˜?
Junsu: Yeah half broken.
Hyunwoo: ๋ฏธํ˜„์”จ๋Š”์š”?
Mihyeon: ํ…”๋ ˆ๋น„์ „์ด ๊ณ ๋‚ญ ๋‚ฌ์–ด์š”. ์ง€๊ธˆ ํ…”๋ ˆ๋น„์ „์ด ํ‘๋ฐฑ์œผ๋กœ ๋‚˜์™€์š”.
Junsu: Really your TV is black and white? Thatโ€™s just like in the 60 or something.
Hyunwoo: ๋นจ๋ฆฌ ๊ณ ์น˜์„ธ์š”. You should fix it soon.
Mihyeon: ๋„ˆ๋ฌด ์˜ค๋ž˜๋œ ํ…”๋ ˆ๋น„์ „์ด๋ผ์„œ ํ•˜๋‚˜ ์‚ฌ์•ผ ๋  ๊ฒƒ ๊ฐ™์•„์š”. ๊ณ ์ณ๋„ ์•ˆ ๋  ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Hyunwoo: Well actually thatโ€™s our next word.
Mihyeon: ๊ณ ์น˜๋‹ค
Junsu: ๊ณ ์น˜๋‹ค
Mihyeon: ๊ณ ์น˜๋‹ค [slowly - broken down by syllable] ๊ณ ์น˜๋‹ค [natural native speed]
Junsu: And it means to fix like we just mentioned.
Hyunwoo: Yeah to fix or to repair. Okay ๋ฏธํ˜„์”จ, ๋นจ๋ฆฌ ํ…”๋ ˆ๋น„์ „ ๊ณ ์น˜์‹œ๊ธธ ๋ฐ”๋ผ๊ณ ์š”. Letโ€™s go into the ๋ฌธ๋ฒ• point.

Lesson focus

Hyunwoo: So todayโ€™s grammar point is about making suppositions. In English, you can use the same sentence structure for a question and an answer but in Korean and in this kind of situation in particular, you use different grammatical patterns for the question and the answer and the question format is
Mihyeon: ใ„น๊นŒ ๋˜๋Š” ์„๊นŒ.
Hyunwoo: And the answer format is
Junsu: ใ„น ๊ฑฐ์•ผ ๋˜๋Š” ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ.
Hyunwoo: And Junsu these grammar patterns are quite easy to conjugate but could you quickly explain them?
Junsu: The question, you take the verb stem and add ใ„น๊นŒ for verb stems that end in a vowel and ์„๊นŒ for verb stems that end in a consonant. And for the answer, itโ€™s quite similar. You take the verb stem and add ใ„น ๊ฑฐ์•ผ for verb stems that end in a vowel and ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ for verb stems that end in a consonant.
Hyunwoo: Thatโ€™s right. So ใ„น๊นŒ or ์„๊นŒ means would it or will it or do you think it will be or do you suppose and the answer ใ„น ๊ฑฐ์•ผ or ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ is a response to it and if you look at this ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ, itโ€™s actually in the intimate politeness level. So how do you change this to the standard politeness level Mihyeon?
Mihyeon: ์„ ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Hyunwoo: And how do you change the question pattern ์„๊นŒ to ์กด๋Œ“๋ง the standard politeness level?
Mihyeon: ์„๊นŒ์š”?
Hyunwoo: Exactly so you just basically add ์š” or ์ด์—์š”. Okay letโ€™s look at how they were used in todayโ€™s dialogue.
Junsu: ๋ฏผ์ˆ˜๊ฐ€ ๋งํ–ˆ์–ด์š”. ์ •ํ˜ธ๊ฐ€ ํ™” ๋‚ผ๊นŒ?
Hyunwoo: Will Jeongho get angry?
Mihyeon: ๋ฏธํ˜„์ด๊ฐ€ ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ๋ผ๊ณ  ์ด์•ผ๊ธฐํ–ˆ์–ด์š”.
Hyunwoo: It should be okay. It will be okay.
Junsu: And Minsu said ๊ณ ์น  ์ˆ˜ ์žˆ์„๊นŒ?
Hyunwoo: Will I be able to fix it?
Mihyeon: ๋ฏธํ˜„์ด๊ฐ€ ๊ณ ์น  ์ˆ˜ ์žˆ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ๋ผ๊ณ  ๋งํ–ˆ์–ด์š”.
Hyunwoo: You will be able to fix it.
Junsu: And Minsu said ๋ˆ์ด ์–ผ๋งˆ ์ •๋„ ๋“ค๊นŒ?
Hyunwoo: Now how much will it cost?
Mihyeon: ๋ฏธํ˜„์ด๊ฐ€ 10๋งŒ์› ์ •๋„ ๋“ค ๊ฑฐ์•ผ๋ผ๊ณ  ๋งํ–ˆ์–ด์š”.
Hyunwoo: It will cost about a WON100, 000. So as you can see, itโ€™s a pair ์„๊นŒ, ์„ ๊ฑฐ์•ผ. So please be sure to remember these as a pair and ๋ฏธํ˜„์”จ, do you think our listeners will like the lesson today? ์˜ค๋Š˜ ๋ ˆ์Šจ์„ ์šฐ๋ฆฌ listener ๋ถ„๋“ค์ด ์ข‹์•„ํ• ๊นŒ์š”?
Mihyeon: ์ข‹์•„ํ•  ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Hyunwoo: Are you sure?
Mihyeon: ๋ถ„๋ช…ํžˆ ์ข‹์•„ํ•  ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Hyunwoo: Are you sure ์ง„์งœ๋กœ ์ข‹์•„ํ• ๊นŒ์š”?
Mihyeon: ์•„๋งˆ ์ข‹์•„ํ•  ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
Hyunwoo: Seriously?
Mihyeon: ์ข‹์•„ํ• ...ํ–ˆ์œผ๋ฉด ์ข‹๊ฒ ์–ด์š”.
Hyunwoo: Mihyeon is not assuming any more. She is just hoping that our listeners will like this lesson. So see you soon at KoreanClass101.com.
Junsu: See you there.
Mihyeon: ์•ˆ๋…•ํžˆ ๊ณ„์„ธ์š”.
