Seol: 네.

Seol: Word가 더 재밌어요.
Keith: Oh really! Why do you like the words better?
Seol: 왜냐면 If I know more words, I can explain more.
Keith: Yeah but you need grammar too.
Seol: Yeah you are right.
Keith: So yeah today, we are going to be focusing on a lot of words and we have a long list today. So let’s get right to it but before that
Seol: 대화를 들어봐요.
DIALOGUE
Seol: 영어로 한 번 더
예슬: 나 오늘 어딘가 이상해.

VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Keith: All right. Now we have a lot of words here.
Seol: 정말 많은 단어들이네요.
Keith: Yeah. So let’s go over some of them, not all of them really quickly. So let’s go over 어딘가. Now we have somewhere 어딘가 and we also had something
Seol: 무언가
Keith: So that pattern
Seol: ㄴ가
Keith: Okay. I am so immature. It follows with a lot of interrogative words. So let’s go over some of them real quickly. Sometime
Seol: 언젠가
Keith: That’s when followed by that pattern. So sometime. Who
Seol: 누군가
Keith: Followed by that pattern. So someone, very simple for a lot of these interrogative words. All right, I wanted to talk about 너무. Now this is a great, great, great, great word to use because it means too much. Let’s have a couple of examples.
Seol: 공원에 사람들이 너무 많아요.
Keith: There is too many people at the park.
Seol: 음악이 너무 시끄러워요.
Keith: The music is too loud, so very simple, very easy to use and it’s used as an adverb so – and all you got to do is place it before a verb. And one word I want to go over really quickly is 너무하다 to do too much.
Seol: Keith 너 진짜 너무해.
Keith: And I like – it’s kind of like a phrase actually. So what does that mean? To do too much.
Seol: It means going overboard.
Keith: Yeah so it’s kind of like ah! you shouldn’t have gone that far. You shouldn’t have said that. That’s too much.
Seol: Right.
Keith: That’s a good word to know. It is actually very useful Korean too. It’s used a lot.
Seol: 그럼요. 저는 매일 쓰는걸요?
Keith: 누구한테요? Who do you use it?
Seol: 제 룸메이트 언니한테요. 언니 너무해.
Keith: You do it too much. You are going overboard. All right well what’s our next word?
Seol: 다니다
Keith: To attend. Now this is to go to school. Now we use this verb to attend school. What else can we attend?
Seol: 학교
Keith: School
Seol: 병원
Keith: Hospital
Seol: 도서관
Keith: The library
Seol: 학원
Keith: Academic institute, secondary school.
Seol: And 영화관
Keith: Movie Theater?
Seol: No.
Keith: Yeah I don’t think you can do that.
Seol: No.
Keith: But most of those have to do with studying hah!
Seol: Right.
Keith: Except 병원 the hospital.
Seol: When it comes to 병원, it’s about regular visiting.
Keith: Yeah so whenever you visit regularly, you are using this verb.
Seol: Uhoo. What about this word 적어 놓다.
Keith: Okay. To write down something. Now what’s interesting about this word?
Seol: It is a compound word from 적다 and 놓다.
Keith: So what’s our first word mean? 적다.
Seol: It’s to write.
Keith: And that second word 놓다?
Seol: It’s to place.
Keith: Yeah so basically to write, to place. So when you combine these, put it down.
Seol: Write down.
Keith: Write it down on a place maybe.
Seol: Right.
Keith: So if you are listening, remember to write down our words.
Seol: 적어 놔 주세요.
Keith: And that was one of our grammar points actually, the requestive that was in our last lesson. All right so let’s move on to another vocabulary word. We can’t go over all of them because we are limited by time but we want to get to as much of them as possible. So what do we have?
Seol: 까먹다
Keith: To forget. Now what’s another form of to forget?
Seol: 잊어버리다
Keith: Now what’s the difference between 잊어버리다 and 까먹다?
Seol: It’s very easy. 잊어버리다 is very formal, but 까먹다 is quite casual.
Keith: Yeah but I think the nuance is a little different too. Now 잊어버리다 is to forget, a general word, a standard word. 까먹다 is more in an instance.
Seol: Yeah you are right. 순간적으로 까먹다.
Keith: Yeah I forgot in that instance.
Seol: Right.
Keith: And one thing interesting I find about this word is there is a phrase related to this word as well.
Seol: 까마귀 고기를 먹다.
Keith: To eat a crow. That kind of sounds disgusting. So..
Seol: But you can eat it.
Keith: Yeah I can eat a lot of things but what happens when you eat a crow? What’s that proverb in Korean? 속담이 뭐예요?
Seol: 까마귀 고기를 먹다.
Keith: Yeah. To eat a crow.
Seol: And it basically means you just forget everything.
Keith: Yeah it’s a very interesting thing to know.
Seol: 네
Keith: All right. Let’s go over our last word 생각나다 What’s the verb to think?
Seol: 생각하다
Keith: Very simple but that’s another 하다 verb but what’s the difference with 생각하다 and 생각나다?
Seol: 생각하다 is your intention.
Keith: To think of something right?
Seol: 생각나다 is kind of natural situation. It just came in to your mind.
Keith: Yeah it’s not like your voluntary thinking about it but somehow, someway a thought came in. It popped in and that’s 생각나다. So let’s have a sample sentence really quickly.
Seol: 어, 나 방금 생각났는데 오늘 저녁에 약속 있어.
Keith: Oh I just had a thought. I have plans tonight. So you kind of forgot about it but it came to your mind 생각났어. All right so that was our last vocabulary word.

Lesson focus

Keith: We don’t have any grammar today but I think our listeners are ready to hear it without any grammar explanation.
Seol: Wow! Wow! Big progress.
Keith: 대단하죠?
Seol: 네
Keith: 생각나요? Does that thought come to mind, when we first started out?
Seol: 그럼요. 생각나죠.
Keith: 안녕하세요. Keith입니다. 처음 뵙겠습니다.
Seol: Wow! 근데 지금 이거 다 이해하는거잖아요.
Keith: Yeah understanding this long dialogue and it’s very complex actually. A lot of grammatical structures.
Seol: Woohoo
