My first visit

Postby John » March 16th, 2009 8:34 pm

I finally had a chance to go to my local Korean church, funny thing is I already new 5 people when I got there, everyone was especially kind and I was "forced" to stay for lunch! Soup and kimchi, it was great I plan to go as often as possible.

korean sermons can be hard to follow - pastors tend to use a lot of vocabulary that you won't hear outside of church, and they usually use higher respect forms that you won't really hear outside of church too.

i guess i am lucky - my pastor grew up bilingual but is more comfortable with english, so he uses more colloquial language and speaks very clearly. he is very easy to understand (i have been understanding like 80% recently). there is an english service, but i have only been 3 times! haha...

the only sad part about my church is that we don't eat together. i miss that about my korean church in tennessee. every once in awhile there will be food (and when there is it's awesome) but there are no cooking facilities at the church.

my mom attends a Korean Church here which is part of Yeoido Full Gospel Church in Korea ( http://vagabondyears.blogspot.com/2008/ ... s-and.html, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoido_Full_Gospel_Church). There is always a Kyopo translating the service for Germans or other non-Koreans, the translation can be heard via a headset.
After service everyone will have lunch together.
unfortunately having half a set of Korean genes doesn't come w/ a language gene
