Antique korean chests

Postby catherinekim » March 11th, 2008 6:41 am

they are gorgeous. i would love to buy one but they are very expensive in the us, price anywhere between 2300 to 3000 . :(
i told a friend that i wanted one and he was shocked i wanted something so old fashioned! i didn't grow up in korea so i dont have the same views on them, however i did grow up around a lot of black lacqured furniture with mother of pearl inlays, which seem very old-ladyish to me, ha.

are these common in the average korean home or just at 할머니's house?

I haven't seen many of those around in modern homes, but I have some of those chests in my own house (or mother's I guess)! I don't think they're so common. But for some reason my family has about 3 or 4 of chests.
