Books on Korean culture

I'm afraid I don't know of any just yet, but I will see what I find at the bookstores in Seoul.

I just checked out http://www.hollym.com and the featured book when I looked at the page was http://www.hollym.com/product_detail.asp?idx=509&keyword=korean%20culture%20of%20korea%20south%20korea (hope that link works). That sounds like what you are looking for. Their "Speaking Korean" series has some good lesson material as well for grammar and vocabulary.

Today a friend of mine recommend me book about everyday life in Korea. She says the book is great:

Here's a good book on Korean culture, which unfortunately you might have trouble finding in the West, but it's available at many Korean bookstores:

Korea Unmasked by Won-Bok Rhie. It talks about the differences between Korea, Japan, and China, as well as those things that are "only in Korea." It talks about education fever, capitalist structure, and the relationship between the North and the South.

Best of all, the book is done entirely in a comics style! While it's comprehensive and analytical, it's a lot of fun to read just because of the cartoons!

love that book. terrible title, great content. easy read. thinking about a reread this summer.

I found this book at my library, but I don't know if it quite fits what you want, but I learned a lot of culture from it. Its about teaching English in Korea.

so strange, I have the absolute opposite view of this book. it is laden with condescension, elitist thought, and contains all around shady advice.
on a plus side, its a bit difficult to find these days - hasn't ever been updated (i think late 90s with only one edition)
Anyways, I actually use that book to show some Korean friends on campus about just how little some Americans know about Koreans - or rather - just how much some Americans can misinterpret some things.
