First 한궄 post

Postby waterbugg » September 30th, 2008 4:37 am

This is my very first post in korean.(i figured out the typing!) I'm assuming the punctuation is the same but I don't really know. I would really love for some more experienced people to give constructive criticism. Thanks in advance!

안녕하새ㅐ여! 저 는 버렄 임니다. 미궄 사람 임니다. 남자칭우 엎타. 안녕!

Some suggestions:
안녕하세요! (This -세요 ending will be very important, especially when you're making requests)

저는 (what's the name you're trying to transliterate?) 입니다. Remember that the formal ending is -ㅂ니다, not -ㅁ니다. And -는 is never separated from the noun it marks.

"미궄" > 미국

남자 친구 없다. Please note the spelling. Also, when you're talking to other people, it's best to avoid using -다 unless you're talking to yourself or you're writing this for a general audience.

Good effort for your first attempt though!

Here's my new attempt:
안녕하새ㅐ여! 저는 브러크 임니다. 미국 사람 임니다. 남자친구 앖다. 안녕!
My name is Brook. I didn't know how to change it. I didn't understand what you meant about not using 다.

It should be:

"안녕하세요! 저는 브루크입니다. 미국 사람입니다. 남자 친구 없어요. 안녕!"

The verbs 이다 'to be' and 아니다 'not to be' should not be separated from their preceding nouns.

And what I meant for the -다 comment was that you should say 없어(요) rather than 없다 when you're conversing with anyone. The plain citation form -다 is primarily used for writing and for self-thought.

Welcome, Brook!
You may also write as 브룩 for your name.

안녕하세요 마팅가씨. 저는 운동하고 과학소설을 좋아해요. 무슨 음악을 듣으세요?

(Corrections: 음악을 그리고 여행 -> 음악하고 여해을 / 음악과 여행을 ; 정말 한국 음식 -> 한국 음식을 정말 ; 사랑해요 -> 좋아해요 ; Everyone -> 여러분 / 따른 사람)
