어차피

Postby phson77 » July 1st, 2008 8:27 am

hi everyone.. just a question.

what's the proper usage of 어차피? in the dictionary, it means "anyways" or "at any rate"; however, i believe that, within colloquial usage and context, it's only to be used in certain contexts? does this make sense? thanks!!

御 : 어조사 어
此 : 이 차
彼 : 저 피

어차피 : this or that (in any cases)

이렇든 저렇든, 이러나 저러나, 아무튼, 여하튼, 기왕 are all the same words.
Let me give you some examples.

어차피 왔으니 차라도 마시고 가세요.
You've come already, why don't you have a kind of tea?

어차피 진 경기니까 재미있게 즐기자.
Just enjoy this game since we've lost anyway.

어차피 갈 거라면 빨리 가는 편이 낫다.
You'd better go earlier if you should go anyway.

Hope this helps. :)
