Postby yomiua5307 » April 7th, 2013 6:05 pm

Hello~

Could you please help by explaining the specific usage and approximate translation of the <-는 것만으로도 >.
I searched though web resources and different grammar books, but can't seem to find anything ㅜㅜ but i often see this in korean literature.

Thank you^^

Hello Yomi,

Thank you for your comment and yes it could be hard to find but well used indeed! ;)

It is quite hard to literally explain in English as it is Korean but we will do our best to help you out here.

-는 것만으로도 basically could be well used to mean 'even up to as far' to show some humble expression.

For example, when you meet some famous person that you admire or so, you could say

만나뵙는 것만으로도 영광입니다. It is even an honor to be able to see you.

Or you might hear this phrase from a love story or something as,

그녀를 볼 수 있는 것만으로도 저는 행복합니다. I am happy enough to be only able to see her.

Does it give you a good grasp or if you would like to try and show us, we could definitely help you out as well!:)

Thank you
