Question about 좋아해요 pronunciation.

Postby dalindeck9646 » October 27th, 2012 6:53 pm

Hey all, just a quick question on the pronunciation of 좋아해요.

Is it pronounced as cho-ah-hey-oh, or will native speakers run it together and say it more like cho-ah-yo? I remember hearing cho-ah-yo quite a bit, but not cho-ah-hey-oh that much.

Thanks for any input you may have!

I know it's confusing when both cho-a-yo and cho-a-hey-yo can be used to mean "I like something" but the two are slightly different and it is best to get familiar with the difference.

좋아요 - cho-a-yo --it's good, it's desirable, it's liked (나는 좋아요 - I like it --It's good as far as I'm concerned)

좋아해요 - cho-a-hey-yo --I (do) like it (I am liking it) "해" is a contraction of '하어' (하어요) a form of the '하다' (to do) verb.

Hi Dalindeck,

Thanks for the comment, Trutherous!

It's similar to say "it's going to -> it's gonna".
If you say "좋아해요" very quickly and fluently as a native speaker, it sounds "좋아~ㅎ요".
Try to repeat it. "좋--아--요" "좋-아-요" "좋아요" :o

Keep it up!

Annyeonghaseyo,
I am just starting today. I am in the first absolute beginners lesson about going to the movies. I am confused that the line for line translation does not include the word museun. I could use the process of elimination, or google it, but I really think that I shouldn't have to, especially in the absolute beginners lessons. I am so sorry to say that this is frustrating and if it continues will really make me want to go somewhere else to learn Korean. I am sad about this. Can someone navigate me to a basic word section to help me not want to quit because of basic word elimination. Please, please don't think I am being picky, it is just hard to begin with and this just makes it harder.Thank you in advance for any help. Kam-sa-ham-ni-da, Patty.
