Self introduction: ~이궈요

Postby gillesvdp » March 27th, 2009 8:35 am

안녕하세요~

I do have a request.
Whenever I go to the Korean Church nearby my house and attend the bible study meeting for young people, there are new members and they introduce themselves.
Sometimes, members are asked to introduced themselves again so as to keep a balance between new and current members.

So I would introduce myself as "저는 질이라고 합니다."
But every other - Korean - persons use something like "저는 은영이궈요".

Do you see the structure that I am thinking about? I might have written it wrong, but I would like to know more about it, maybe in a beginner's lesson.

Thanks!

I think it must be ...구요,

저는 질이라고 합니다. 그리고 ....(and so on)
=> 저는 질이라고 하고 ...(and so on)

저는 은영이구요, 나이는 스무살이고, 지금 학생입니다...
저는 질이구요, 벨기에 사람이구요, ....

고요/구요 is just the polite version.
