죽 (juk) "porridge"

When I'm not feeling well, 죽 is always what comes to mind (if I still have the appetite, that is) because it's really easy to digest and therefore comfortable to the stomach, so a lot of people eat 죽 when they're sick or make/prepare/buy 죽 for someone who's sick.

My friend was sick one day so we went to have some 죽 together.

The store name was "죽 이야기" and personally this shop was much much better than the famous "본죽" that you can find all over Seoul.

Anyway, here's a couple of pics of the 죽 I had - it was DELICIOUS!!

Wow, that looks like a nice hot bowl of 죽!

What types of 죽 are commonly eaten in Korea? Which one was that in the picture?

흰죽 : Just white rice
잣죽 : Pine nut
호박죽 : Pumpkin
단팥죽 : Sweet red bean
전복죽 : Abalone
야채죽 : Vegetables
삼계죽 : Ginseng and chicken
들깨죽 : Wild sesame
해물죽 : Seafoods
미역죽 : Brown seaweed
버섯굴죽 : Mushrooms and Oyster

And so on...
It seems like to be 삼계죽 or 야채죽.

Manyakumi :)

Thanks A LOT for the thorough list ^^

And I think what I had was "해물죽" - seafood ^^

It was VERY good!

That's an interesting list! Quite different from what we commonly eat here in Singapore. Here we have more "boring" types: plain, fish, chicken, pork, peanut, century egg. But I guess if you go to a porridge restaurant, there will be more exotic types. :)

I would certainly like to try Korean porridge!
