Do you know how to write ㅇ(ieung) in Korean?
ㅇ(ieung)
Starting from the top, write the circle counter-clockwise as the English alphabet O.
This circle called 이응 (i-eung) acts as a placeholder for the consonant. So whenever you have a vowel on its own, this placeholder comes before it.
Here are some examples.

오이 (oi)
