Keith: Really. Why is that?
Seol: Well when I got to a street shop and when I find out that I do not like these clothes, then the clerk really tries hard not to give my money back to me.
Keith: Yeah. Well if you go to a bigger store, the department stores or the chain stores, they will definitely give you a refund.
Seol: Sure, sure.
Keith: But if you are stopping by a small shop, they kind of got some cute clothes but hey, be careful. If you worn it, you have to buy it. You are not getting your money back. Sometimes they give it back to you, right?
Seol: Yeah when the clerk is really kind and when I do not hurt their feelings.

VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Keith: All right. So let’s have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson. The first word we are going to have a look at is
Seol: 커요 (keoyo).
Keith: It’s big. And what’s the opposite of 커요 (keoyo)?
Seol: 작아요. (jagayo.)
Keith: It’s small. Okay can you give us some sample sentences?
Seol: 이 신발 너무 커요. (i sinbal neomu keoyo.)
Keith: These shoes are too big.
Seol: 이 모자 너무 작아요. (i moja neomu jagayo.)
Keith: This hat is too small. All right, well what’s our next phrase? We got a phrase.
Seol: 바꿔 주세요. (bakkwo juseyo).
Keith: Please exchange it. And we use this phrase to exchange things in stores. So this might be very useful for our listeners who want to exchange something at big name stores. So how did it come out in this dialogue?
Seol: 이 치마 바꿔 주세요. (i chima bakkwo juseyo.)
Keith: Please exchange this skirt and if you notice there, what you wanted to exchange comes in front of the phrase
Seol: 바꿔 주세요. (bakkwo juseyo)
Keith: So there it’s asking, exchange it to money. So you can also use this when you want to break big bills.
Seol: Sure. I sometimes go to a store like a convenient store and say 잔돈으로 바꿔 주세요. (jandoneuro bakkwo juseyo.)
Keith: Exchange it to coins please.
Seol: Yes please.
Keith: So this actually could be very useful if you are living in Korea. One more time, what’s that phrase?
Seol: 바꿔 주세요. (bakkwo juseyo)

Lesson focus

Keith: Please exchange it, pretty versatile.

Lesson focus

Keith: All right, let’s take a look at our focus for this lesson. Okay Seol, do you know what’s going on? Do you know what the focus of this lesson is?
Seol: Yeah. Can I say it?
Keith: Yes please.
Seol: How is it? 어때요? (eottaeyo?)
Keith: 어때요? (eottaeyo?)And this is a question that means, how is it or what is it like and you can also use this expression to ask, how about something, how about doing something.
Seol: Yeah. In this dialogue, it came out as 어때요? (eottaeyo?)
Keith: How is it and 어때요 (eottaeyo) is different from the how is it in English. It comes at the last part of the sentence.
Seol: For example, 오늘 맥주 어때요? (oneul maekju eottaeyo?)
Keith: How about some beer today but if you notice there 어때요 (eottaeyo) came at the end of the sentence. Okay so can you give us some more examples?
Seol: KoreanClass101.com 어때요? (eottaeyo?)
Keith: How is KoreanClass101.com, it’s awesome, it’s great.
Seol: Okay or I ask my friend 오늘 점심 피자 어때? (oneul jeomsim pija eottae?)
Keith: How about pizza for lunch today and actually because you are asking your friend, that’s an informal Korean. So instead of 어때요 (eottaeyo) what do you say?
Seol: 어때? (eottae?)
Keith: Just drop that 요 (yo) at the end. All right, and one more thing to go over. How did it come out in this dialogue?
Seol: The clerk asked Hyejin, 이거는 어때요? (igeoneun eottaeyo?)
Keith: How about this one? All right, so how about we finish 어때요? (eottaeyo?)
Seol: Sounds great.

Outro

Keith: So that just about does it for this lesson. We will see you every one next time.
Seol: 안녕. (Annyeong).
