Dana: And welcome to Must-Know Korean Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 28 - Using the Verb "To Have."
Dana: In this lesson, you'll learn a sentence pattern for talking about belongings.
PATTERN
Dana: For example...
Dana: "You have an expensive watch."
Jaehwi: 비싼 시계를 가지고 있네요. (bissan sigyereul gajigo inneyo.)
Jaehwi: [slow] 비싼 시계를 가지고 있네요. (bissan sigyereul gajigo inneyo.)
Dana: The pattern for talking about belongings has 3 elements. First, the adjective here is “expensive.”
Jaehwi: 비싼 (bissan).
Dana: Second, the noun “watch,” plus object marking particle…
Jaehwi: 를 (reul).
Jaehwi: 시계를 (sigyereul).
Dana: Third, you add “to have”.
Jaehwi: 가지고 있네요 (gakko inneyo).
Dana: And here, you say the present progressive verb stem plus…
Jaehwi: 고 (go)
Dana: plus the verb stem, plus the sentence ending…
Jaehwi: 네요 (neyo).

Jaehwi: 비싼 시계를 가지고 있네요. (bissan sigyereul gajigo inneyo.) [slow]
