INTRODUCTION |
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric. |
Lyn: And I'm Lyn. |
Eric: And welcome to Must-Know Korean Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 16. Proposing an Activity. |
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for proposing something. |
PATTERN |
Eric: For example, |
Eric: "Let's have lunch." |
Lyn: ์ ์ฌ ๊ฐ์ด ๋จน์ด์. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.) |
Lyn: [slow] ์ ์ฌ ๊ฐ์ด ๋จน์ด์. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.) |
Eric: The pattern for proposing something has 4 elements. First, the noun, "lunch." |
Lyn: ์ ์ฌ (jeomsim). |
Eric: Second, the adverb, "together." |
Lyn: ๊ฐ์ด (gachi). |
Eric: Third, the verb stem, "to eat." |
Lyn: ๋จน (meok). |
Eric: And last, the sentence ending that makes the sentence polite. |
Lyn: ์ด์ (eoyo). |
Eric: Altogether, we have... "Let's have lunch." |
Lyn: ์ ์ฌ ๊ฐ์ด ๋จน์ด์. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.) [slow] ์ ์ฌ ๊ฐ์ด ๋จน์ด์. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.) [normal] ์ ์ฌ ๊ฐ์ด ๋จน์ด์. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.) |
Eric: You can use the adverb โtogetherโ or in Koreanโฆ |
Lyn: ๊ฐ์ด (gachi) |
Eric: to make the proposal clear. Also, you can use one of the sentence-endingsโฆ |
Lyn: ์์ (ayo), ์ด์ (eoyo), ์ฌ์ (yeoyo) |
Eric: To make a suggestion after the verb-stem. It can be translated as โLetโs do somethingโ although itโs just the sentence ending that makes the sentence polite. Also, make sure to add the subject at the beginning. |
Lyn: ์ ์ฌ ๊ฐ์ด ๋จน์ด์. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.) |
Eric: So remember that to propose something, simply say the adverb "together" and the verb stem plus the sentence ending |
Lyn: ์์ (ayo), ์ด์ (eoyo), ์ฌ์ (yeoyo) |
Eric: Here is another example meaning, "Let's have a trip." First, the noun, "a trip." |
Lyn: ์ฌํ (yeohaeng). |
Eric: Second, the adverb, "together." |
Lyn: ๊ฐ์ด (gachi). |
Eric: Third, the verb stem, "to go." |
Lyn: ๊ฐ (ga). |
Eric: And last, the sentence ending that makes the sentence polite. |
Lyn: ์์ (ayo). |
Eric: Altogether we have... |
Lyn: ์ฌํ ๊ฐ์ด ๊ฐ์. (yeohaeng gachi gayo.) [slow] ์ฌํ ๊ฐ์ด ๊ฐ์. (yeohaeng gachi gayo.) [normal] ์ฌํ ๊ฐ์ด ๊ฐ์. (yeohaeng gachi gayo.) |
Eric: "Let's have a trip." |
[pause] |
Lyn: ์ฌํ ๊ฐ์ด ๊ฐ์. (yeohaeng gachi gayo.) |
Eric: How do you say - "Let's drink coffee." To give you a hint, the verb-stem "to drinkโ is... |
Lyn: ๋ง์ (masi). [slow] ๋ง์ (masi). [normal] ๋ง์ (masi). |
Eric: "Let's drink coffee." |
[pause] |
Lyn: ์ปคํผ ๊ฐ์ด ๋ง์
์. (keopi gachi masyeoyo.) [slow] ์ปคํผ ๊ฐ์ด ๋ง์
์. (keopi gachi masyeoyo.) [normal] ์ปคํผ ๊ฐ์ด ๋ง์
์. (keopi gachi masyeoyo.) |
[pause] |
Lyn: ์ปคํผ ๊ฐ์ด ๋ง์
