INTRODUCTION
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric.
Lyn: And I'm Lyn.
Eric: And welcome to Must-Know Korean Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 16. Proposing an Activity.
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for proposing something.
PATTERN
Eric: For example,
Eric: "Let's have lunch."
Lyn: 점심 같이 먹어요. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.)
Lyn: [slow] 점심 같이 먹어요. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.)
Eric: The pattern for proposing something has 4 elements. First, the noun, "lunch."
Lyn: 점심 (jeomsim).
Eric: Second, the adverb, "together."
Lyn: 같이 (gachi).
Eric: Third, the verb stem, "to eat."
Lyn: 먹 (meok).
Eric: And last, the sentence ending that makes the sentence polite.
Lyn: 어요 (eoyo).
Eric: Altogether, we have... "Let's have lunch."
Lyn: 점심 같이 먹어요. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.) [slow] 점심 같이 먹어요. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.) [normal] 점심 같이 먹어요. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.)

Lyn: 같이 (gachi)
Eric: to make the proposal clear. Also, you can use one of the sentence-endings…
Lyn: 아요 (ayo), 어요 (eoyo), 여요 (yeoyo)
Eric: To make a suggestion after the verb-stem. It can be translated as “Let’s do something” although it’s just the sentence ending that makes the sentence polite. Also, make sure to add the subject at the beginning.
Lyn: 점심 같이 먹어요. (jeomsim gachi meogeoyo.)
Eric: So remember that to propose something, simply say the adverb "together" and the verb stem plus the sentence ending
Lyn: 아요 (ayo), 어요 (eoyo), 여요 (yeoyo)
Eric: Here is another example meaning, "Let's have a trip." First, the noun, "a trip."
Lyn: 여행 (yeohaeng).
Eric: Second, the adverb, "together."
Lyn: 같이 (gachi).
Eric: Third, the verb stem, "to go."
Lyn: 가 (ga).
Eric: And last, the sentence ending that makes the sentence polite.
Lyn: 아요 (ayo).
Eric: Altogether we have...
Lyn: 여행 같이 가요. (yeohaeng gachi gayo.) [slow] 여행 같이 가요. (yeohaeng gachi gayo.) [normal] 여행 같이 가요. (yeohaeng gachi gayo.)
Eric: "Let's have a trip."
[pause]
Lyn: 여행 같이 가요. (yeohaeng gachi gayo.)
Eric: How do you say - "Let's drink coffee." To give you a hint, the verb-stem "to drink” is...
Lyn: 마시 (masi). [slow] 마시 (masi). [normal] 마시 (masi).
Eric: "Let's drink coffee."
[pause]
Lyn: 커피 같이 마셔요. (keopi gachi masyeoyo.) [slow] 커피 같이 마셔요. (keopi gachi masyeoyo.) [normal] 커피 같이 마셔요. (keopi gachi masyeoyo.)
