Jaehwi: Hi everyone. I am Jaehwi. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. Let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is geography. That was my favorite subject when I was back in school. Okay let’s see what we have.
The first word is 호수 (hosu) which means “lake.” With that word, you can say (Jeoneun sanjeonghosueseo sanchaekaneun geoseul joahamnida.) “I like walking around the lake named 산정호수 (sanjeonghosu) Sanjeong Lake.” It is really closer to North Korea. So in the past when North Korea had that area, that lake became a place for 김일성 (gimilseol) like his place to you know go around, private place only for him because the scenery is so beautiful. It’s 산정호수 (sanjeonghosu) Sanjeong Lake.
Okay next we have 산 (san) which means “mountain.” With that word, you can say (Seoureneun namsangwa bukansani isseoseo saramdeuri deungsaneul jaju hamnida.) which means “In Seoul, we have 남산 (namsan) South Mountain and 북한산 (bukansan) North Mountain. So people do hiking a lot in Seoul.”
Okay next we have 언덕 (eondeok) which means “hill.” With that word, you can say (Seoureneun eondeogi manaseo jajeongeoreul tagiga himdeumnida.) which means “It’s difficult for riding a bicycle in Seoul because there are a lot of hills.”
Next we have 섬 (seom) “island.” With that word, you can say (Hangugui namjjogeun seomi manaseo dadohaeragodo bullimnida.) which means “In South Sea of South Korea, there are a lot of islands. So it’s also called 다도해 (dadohae) which literally means sea with a lot of islands.”
Okay next we have 들판 (deulpan) which means “field.” With that word, you can say (Uri jip gangajineun deulpaneseo honja ttwinoneun geoseul joahamnida.) which means “My dog likes to run around in the field alone.”
End. Okay, that’s all the words that we have. I hope you liked some of the words that we introduced in this theme. I will see you next week. (Daeum sigane boepgetsseumnida.) (Annyeonghi gyeseyo.)
