Jaehwi: Hi everyone. I am Jaehwi. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. Let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is, in the classroom. Let’s see what kind of words we have for this theme.
First we have 공책 (gongchaek) which means “notebook.” 공 (gong) means “empty” and 책 (chaek) means “book.” So altogether it literally means a book with nothing. So when you open the notebook, there is nothing to read. So that’s why we call notebook as 공책 (gongchaek). Okay with that word I can say 책가방 안에 공책을 넣습니다. (Chaekgabang ane gongchaegeul neosseumnida.) which means “I put a notebook into a backpack.”
수업 (sueop) which means “class.” With that word you can say 저는 한국어 수업이 있습니다. (Jeoneun hangugeo sueobi itsseumnida.) which means “I have a Korean class.”
Okay next we have 교과서 (gyogwaseo) which means “textbook.” Here we have the word 서 (seo) which means “book” too. With that word, you can say 저는 한국어 교과서가 세 권 있습니다. (Jeoneun hangugeo gyogwaseoga se gwon itsseumnida.) which means “I have three Korean textbooks.”
Okay next we have 숙제 (sukjje) which means “homework.” 숙제 (sukjje) literally means the work to do at home. So that’s meaning homework. With that word, you can say 저는 오늘 밤에 숙제를 해야 합니다. (Jeoneun oneul bame sukjjereul haeya hamnida.) which means “I have to do my homework tonight.”
Okay next we have 시험 (siheom) which means “test.” With that word, you can say 저는 내일 한국어 시험이 있습니다. (Jeoneun naeil hangugeo siheomi itsseumnida.) which means “I have a Korean test tomorrow.”
That is the end. Okay that’s all for this week. I hope you enjoyed all the words. Then see you next week. 다음 주에 뵐게요. (Daeum jue boelgeyo.) 감사합니다. (Gamsahamnida.)
