Jaehwi: Hi everyone, welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. I am Jaehwi. Let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is Continents. Okay let’s see what we have for this topic.
First one is 북아메리카 (buk-amerika) which means “North America.” 북 (buk) is the word meaning “North” and 아메리카 (amerika) is the word meaning “America.” With that word, you can say 한국에서 북아메리카까지 가려면 최소한 9시간이 필요합니다. (Hangugeseo bugamerikakkaji garyeomyeon choesohan ahopsigani piryohamnida.) which means, “To go to North American from South Korea, it takes at least 9 hours.”
남아메리카 (namamerika) which means “South America.” With that word, you can say 저는 40대가 되기 전에 남아메리카에 꼭 한 번 가고 싶습니다. (Jeoneun sasipdaega doegi jeone namamerikae kkok han beon gago sipsseumnida.) which means, “I really want to visit South America before I make 40.” I just want to visit every country in South America like Brazil and I know that people there are very friendly. So yeah.
아프리카 (apeurika) which means “Africa.” With that word, you can say 기회가 되면 아프리카에 가서 사파리에 가 보고 싶습니다. (Gihoega doemyeon apeurikae gaseo saparie ga bogo sipsseumnida.) which means “If I get a chance, I want to visit a safari in Africa.” Especially with my mother, I want to go there because you know, she loves traveling. We haven’t got a chance to travel together.
아시아 (asia) which means “Asia.” With that word, you can say 저는 휴가 때마다 아시아에 있는 여러 나라를 가고 있습니다. (Jeoneun hyuga ttaemada asiae inneun yeoreo narareul gago itsseumnida.) which means “I visit different Asian countries when I get a chance to take vacation.” 남극대륙 (namgeukdaeryuk) which means “Antarctica.” With that word, you can say 남극대륙에 가면 진짜 펭귄을 만날 수 있습니다. (Namgeukdaeryuge gamyeon jinjja penggwineul mannal su itsseumnida.) which means “If you go to Antarctica, you can see real penguins.”
