Jaehwi: Hi everyone. I am Jaehwi. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. Let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is flavors. Okay let’s see what we have.
The first one is 맛 (mat) which means “taste.” Okay with that word, you can say 김치는 맛이 좋습니다. (Gimchineun masi josseumnida.) which means “Kimchi is delicious.” or “Kimchi tastes good.” 맛보다 (matboda) which is the verb meaning “to taste” or it really means something like to try the taste. If you go to Korean department store and go to Korean supermarket inside, then people will ask you saying 맛보세요. (Matboseyo.) which means “try the taste, try this” which means like enjoy the meal.
Okay next we have 달콤한 (dalkomhan) which means “sweet.” In the previous video, we used the word 단 음식 (dan eumsik) to mean “sweet food.” So there I used the word 단 (dan) which is actually the verb saying 달다 (dalda). When you say 단 (dan) it means something just sweet in general but 달콤한 (dalkomhan) is something like the most like sweeter thing that kids would like but not adults. So with that word, you can say 푸는 달콤한 꿀을 좋아합니다. (Puneun dalkomhan kkureul joahamnida.) which means “Winnie the Pooh likes sweet honey.”
Okay next we have 매운 (maeun) “spicy.” 매운 음식을 좋아하면 한국으로 오세요. (Maeun eumsigeul joahamyeon hangugeuro oseyo.) which means “Come to Korea if you like spicy food.” There will be a ton of spicy foods in South Korea.
Okay next we have 쓴 (sseun) meaning “bitter.” Okay with that word, you can say 효과가 강한 약은 맛이 더 씁니다. (Hyogwaga ganghan yageun masi deo sseumnida.) which means “Stronger medicines taste bitter.”
Okay that’s all the words that we have about flavors. I will see you next week. 다음 시간에 뵐게요. (Daeum sigane boelgeyo.) 안녕히 계세요. (Annyeonghi gyeseyo.)
