Hi everybody! I'm Alisha.
안녕하세요. 노경진입니다.
Welcome to Korean Counters for Beginners, where you'll learn how to count all sorts of different objects in Korean! Seonsaengnim (선생님), what counter will we learn in this lesson?

When you're counting the number of times, you can use the counter...
번 (beon)
This counter is for counting the number of times rather than objects. When you are counting the number of times that you did something, such as watching a movie, or going to the gym, you can use this counter.
Okay, let's count from 1 to 10 with this counter. When you're counting floors you should use Sino-Korean numbers, which are based on Chinese characters.
한 번
두 번
세 번
네 번
다섯 번
여섯 번
일곱 번
여덟 번
아홉 번
열 번
Like most of the counters, the stress of the counter word should be on the first syllable when you're reading the number five to ten, which has batchim.
daseot bbeon(다섯 뻔) not daseot beon(다섯 번)
yeoseot bbeon(여섯 뻔) not yeoseot beon(여섯 번)
ilgop bbeon(일곱 뻔) not ilgop beon (일곱 번)
yedeol bbeon(여덜 뻔) not yedeol beon (여덜 번)
ahop bbeon(아홉 뻔) not ahop beon (아홉 번)
yeol bbeon(열 뻔) not yeol beon (열 번)
Okay. Now let's take a look at some sample sentences using this counter. Listen carefully to what sorts of objects can be counted with this counter.
