Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! I'm Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We've found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you'll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask where something is located. After watching this video, you’ll be able to ask for directions.
Now, let's take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
슈퍼마켓은 어디에 있어요? (Syupeomakeseun eodie isseoyo?)
저기에 있어요. (Jeogie isseoyo.)
Once more with the English translation.
슈퍼마켓은 어디에 있어요? (Syupeomakeseun eodie isseoyo?)
“Where is the supermarket?”
저기에 있어요. (Jeogie isseoyo.)
“It's over there.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "Where is [place]?"
The pattern is:
[place]은/는 어디에 있어요? ([place]eun/neun eodie isseoyo?)
This Korean sentence literally translates as "[place] is where at?" But it means "Where is [place]?".
For example:
"Where is the supermarket?"
슈퍼마켓은 어디에 있어요?, 슈퍼마켓은 어디에 있어요? (Syupeomakeseun eodie isseoyo?, Syupeomakeseun eodie isseoyo?)
Now, how do you answer this question?
저기에 있어요. (Jeogie isseoyo.)
"It's over there."
Listen to it again:
저기에 있어요., 저기에 있어요. (Jeogie isseoyo., Jeogie isseoyo.)
This Korean sentence translates as "There at is." But it means "It's over there."
