Learn Korean with KoreanClass101.com! When you go to meet your Korean date at her parents’ home, you make sure you’re wearing your best jacket and tie, comb your hair, and splash on a little (but not too much!) cologne. When you arrive at her house, you knock on the door, expecting to get your Korean date and run out the door. But no, her father answers the door and greets you in Korean! He tells you in Korean, “Hello, you must be my daughter’s date. Please come in.” This is a bit more than you expected, but you comply and return the greeting in Korean. He invites you into the living room to wait for his daughter, and he begins to ask you many questions in Korean. You respond to his questions about your job, education, and plans for the evening in Korean for what seems like an eternity until your date appears. When she arrives, her father says to you in Korean, “It was a pleasure talking with you. How did you learn to speak Korean so well?”

Hello Everyone~

태권도 어떻게 해요? (No 던지기 in 태권도*^^*)
Wednesday at 4:22 pm
Hi
I do karate and I have brown belt.
Do you know “Oyama”?
He is really the big master of Karate.
He is Korean.
Wednesday at 9:34 pm
안녕하세요!

Thursday at 12:27 pm
sorry i make posting again… why my yesterday post became half?? lol weird!!
let’s try make some exercise… noun+어떻게 + 해요/any verb?
저 태관도 안 해요.
김밥 어떻게 만들어요? (how to make Kimbap?)
한국어 어떻게 공부했어요? (how did you learned Korean?)
어떻게 왔어요? (how did you came?)
어떻게 해요? (how do you that)
어떻게 했어요? (how did you do that?)
돈 어떻게 갖었어요? (how did you got this money?)

Thursday at 2:46 pm
카라테와 태권도 어떻게 다른가요?
오야마는 어떻게 하는건가요?
Please, teach us!! lol
It happens sometimes. I had…weird.
“저 태권도 안 해요” is a little direct expression. “저는 태권도 안 해봤어요” or “저는 태권도해 본 적이 없어요” are better to say. It’s saying “experience”
돈 어떻게 갖었어요?–>돈 어떻게 가졌어요? /a basic verb “가지다”. (But we usually say that “돈 어디서 생겼어요?)
와우~~ 태권도 하실 줄 아시는군요!!
블랙벨트 따셨어요??(you won a black belt) 대단해요!! (awesome!)
Thursday at 5:03 pm
네. 정말 감사합니다!! ^^
돈 어떻게 가졌어요?
태권도 안 해봤어요.

How about 이렇게?

My friend did taekwondo when I was a kid. I wanted to do it, but my parents wouldn’t let me.
Actually, I wanted to be like Daniel from the Karate Kid.
Now I am very interested in Korean, but it looks hard to start. How do I tell people that I am a beginner, but that I am going to try very hard?
Thursday at 6:35 pm
Hi every one
The difference between Karate and Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a martial art from Korea but Karate is from Japan and there are some different movements in each art. In both, the color of the student’s belt shows his/her level, the arrangement of colors in Karate and Taekwondo is different. Both finish with black belt, also black belt has different levels which is recognizable by the word “Dan”.
And about Oyama
Oyama was a big master of Karate as you know, of course the biggest creator of east martial arts in the world, he is originally Korean but he moved to Japan in 1930 when he was 7. His real name is “Joy Yung Ii” and he achieved to Dan 2 (ni dan) when he was just 17. He created a special method of Karate named “Kyokushin”…
One of his famous stories is fighting with a buffalo, in this show he hit head of buffalo and its horn broke and threw to people…
He passed away in 1996 due to lung cancer.
I hope it was helpful.

)
8월 27일 is my 1st Dan test, but I used to be a 1st Dan in another organization 16 years ago. (Typing that makes me feel old!
Thursday at 6:55 pm
I wish you good luck for your test. I believe that you will make the first level.
p.s. Just in the case you are wondering,
단 (Dan) is the word for steps or levels. : )
Friday at 1:27 pm
감사합니다!
I was curious, 보다 can mean “to take a test” but I wondered if it only is used for written tests, or can be used for physical tests like in the martial arts?
Friday at 2:12 pm
천만에요~ (You’re Welcome)
You can use ‘보다’ for any type of tests. For example, you can say..
체육시험을 보다.
I take a physical test.
인터뷰를 보다.
I take an interview (test).
Even if you actually read or see something, you can use the word.

I have a a couple questions - in the dialog, they say 차기 어떻게 해요, but I was curious… 1) 차다 is a verb, and 차기 is a noun related to the verb - how are they related? Are there other verb/noun pairs that follow this pattern? and 2) The dialog said that you can use 어떻게 and a conjugated verb following it. What sounds more natural, 차기 어떻게 해요, or 어떻게 plus a conjugated form of 차다?

Hi Angela,
This is Madison from Koreanclass101.com
You are really good with language! Very good question.
So the comments are below.
1) Both simply has the same prefix. Think about english word like solve - solution. They yshare the same prefix yet former verb, latter noun! You will see some just like you see from english as well. The rule is popularily applied. As an example 공부하다 means to study right? To make it as a noun, it would be 공부하기.
2) There are two choices using 어떻게. One is as you have mentioned using the noun (차기 어떻게 해요) If you would like to use verb(차다), that would be 어떻게 차요? ~해요 is where the verb goes in. So you can simple replace 해요 to any other verbs!
Hope this helped you and please feel free to comment any time for any further questions or inquiries.
Thank you,
Madison, Koreanclass101.com
