Wednesday at 2:27 am

Wednesday at 6:03 am
Very interesting, thank you!
Most of the people I know are 김, 박, 이 or 정.

Wednesday at 9:33 am
I know lots, 김, 박, 이, 권, 조, 배, 방, 변, 송, 용, 윤, 최, 한, 황, 마, 신, 심, 임, 장, 홍…I could go on, but thats because I teach in Korea and have lots of students, coworkers, friends, neighbors, etc.
If I became a nationalized citizen, I would create my own family name of 마 because my 3-letter name in Korea is 마이클 and my students call me 마샘.

Carl
You can start making more friends! Hehe. 친구는 더 많이 만들 수 있어요~~ I have only one friend by the last name “송”
Heartborne
So are most of the people I know ㅋㅋ
ESLMiguel
Do you know any 선? ^^
I have a very close friend who’s a 마.
Wednesday at 5:44 pm

Wednesday at 9:06 pm
Hey! I know some people who are 이, 문, 김, & 정…
My Korean last name would be 왕 then.
Wednesday at 9:18 pm
by the way? Is there a 陳 in Korea? And what’s its Hangul counterpart?

Wow thanks for the detailed list ^^
Yes, we do have a 陳 in Korea
and it’s pronounced “진” ^^
Thursday at 1:52 am
very interesting
Thursday at 4:32 am
Yeah…
Especially the 두 글자 성 Anyone ever met someone with a two syllable family name? I saw it in a movie once.. 남공 달 was the characters name. He made this joke “남공 is my family name, so don’t call me 공달” ㅎㅎㅎ
Thursday at 10:51 am
Has anybody seen any 선?
Thursday at 10:57 am
The former principal at my school had a two-syllable family name. Ive also seen a student with no family name - only two syllables for the whole name. And I even have a student named 엘리사. The homeroom teacher told me it is a name from the Bible. Seems like the nature of Korean names is changing somewhat these days.
Thursday at 11:03 am
현우 씨 - Theres only one 선 Ive ever known, but Ive never met him in real life. Who could it be?
Thursday at 11:40 am
ESLMiguel
I guess I know who that is!
And did one of your students really not have a family name??? That’s really shocking
Thursday at 1:10 pm
this is the same as chinese names. haha. my family name would be 황 (黃). but it’s pronounced as ‘ng’ in my dialect.
Thursday at 6:43 pm
I want have Korean name. What do u think? what kind of name will be match with me….

just you sun
Friday at 4:17 am
It seems like many official Korean forms and templates don’t always accomodate people with four syllable blocks in their names. At my academy, I had two sisters whose family name was 고은, and their “first” names had two syllable blocks, for a total of four. It always seemed like their names were cut off on attendance sheets, rosters, and other paperwork.
Friday at 12:25 pm
All of the korean people i know personally have the last name 김, and not a single one of them are related.
I know of 2 선s that are friends of a friend, but i’ve never met them myself.
I’ll have to ask all the 김s what their 본관 (did i spell that right?) is next time i see them.
If i took on a korean last name, it would be 나. I think it’s a pretty name. I’d be 잭슨빌 나 or 프로리다 나
Friday at 3:21 pm
황 테레사 suits you ^^ I have a lot of close friends whose last names are 황
firsty
What kind of name do you want? ^^ And what’s your full name? Maybe we can think of something similar to your full name
naohel
Hehe. it’s an honor!
Daniel
True, true, true ! I always thought it was funny that everything has only three blocks of space when some people had four letters in their names
Eden
나 is a good last name. Easy to pronounce and remember. When I was a child, people weren’t really used to the last name “선” so everybody thought I was saying “손” which is a more common last name. I’ve just checked my cellphone and I have more friends with 나 in their last name than I thought! - three of them are “나”
And ‘본관’ - you wrote it correctly. ^^
Friday at 9:48 pm
hyunwoo,
haha. i’ve got a chinese name - 黃淑莉. but i seldom use that except for official stuffs where they ask you to put your full name and stuffs like that.
Monday at 1:53 pm
I already have a chinese name, 罗安德 (luo2 an1 de2)
A korean friend said a Korean equivalent would be “Na An te”
Does it sound good? :/
Tuesday at 10:43 am
theresa
mike
That would be actually “나안덕” - 德 is pronounced “덕” ^^ 안덕 doesn’t sound very typically Korean, but it sounds cool
!
Tuesday at 6:04 pm
My name is 罗子杰, when i was at uni with a whole group of koreans, one translated my name to 나와걸 or something similar. It was unanimous that it sounded ridiculous!
Tuesday at 9:57 pm
maxiewawa:
according to my Hanja dictionary, 羅子杰 is 나자걸.
현우 오빠, how do you say my sisters’ names in hanja?
Tuesday at 9:58 pm
Typo… in Korean…not in Hanja. LOL
I’d like to add 李卓妍 with the names。
Tuesday at 10:05 pm
Tuesday at 10:08 pm
독일 … sorry, I misspelled Germany…and I’m sure there are more errors as well…
Wednesday at 9:18 am
Max, like 龍碩 said, your name would be “나자걸”
your sisters names are as follows
Wednesday at 9:18 am
Thanks guys, call me 자걸.
Wednesday at 9:18 am
Wednesday at 9:41 am
My best friend in Korea gave me a Korean name… Just curious, what would that be in hanja?
Wednesday at 9:45 am
Miguel
It usually depends on the person,
but I think a common way to write it is 李太雄
Wednesday at 11:31 pm
I chose the name, my mom didn’t…
I tried to find out about the meaning on the internet. “규리”라는 딸 있는 여자을 인터넷에세 찾았어요. 이 여자가 “규리”의 뜻이 “별”랑 “good’, ‘do (a person) good’, ‘beneficial” (奎利).
Maybe she meant benevolent? Can you help me w/ the meaning, Hyun-Woo? ^^
Claudia Schiffer
Thursday at 12:50 am
Thursday at 10:51 pm
I sort of forgot to end that one sentence but I hope you can understand what I wanted to say
Friday at 12:44 am
Tuesday at 4:33 pm
Hi Hyunwoo…
My last name is Kim.
My dad is a “Kim”…from the Soonchun Kim line
My mom is a “Kim”…from the Kimhae Kim line
What does that make me? … do the kids always follow the father’s Kim lineage? ….how does that work if both your parents are Kims?
Are there any other Kims out there from either of these lines?
Thursday at 7:13 pm
what’s my korean name if my name is johanna genesis cera?
pleas can someone tell me..i’m dying to know it..
Thursday at 7:22 pm
Sarah
Your name can be the Soonchun Kim.
The kids always follow the father’s lineage whether it’s Kim or another family name.
gen
“조안나 제네시스 세라” 라고 써요.
예쁜 이름이네요.
Monday at 10:38 am
[…] According to what I learned at KoreanClass101.Com, having similar family names doesn’t mean you are already relatives. […]
Sunday at 3:04 pm
Hi. My name is Alvin Lee. Can anyone tell me what’s my Korean name? Thx
Monday at 1:30 am
or
I still don’t really get the subtle difference in the pronunciation of 에and 애….
*sigh*….
Monday at 12:53 pm
Both are OK!
But I prefer 앨빈 in your name. ^^v
