Do you know how to make casual invitations in Korean?
Welcome to Three Step Korean Practice by KoreanClass101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to make casual invitations.
Let’s look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
에리카 씨, 이번 주말에 남대문 시장에 같이 갈래요? (Erika ssi, ibeon jumare Namdaemun sijange gachi gallaeyo?)
Erica, want to go to Namdaemun Market together this weekend?
좋아요! 오전이 좋아요, 오후가 좋아요? (Joayo! Ojeoni joayo, ohuga joayo?)
Sure! Do you prefer morning or afternoon?
In this sentence,
이번 주말에 남대문 시장에 같이 갈래요?
the speaker uses the pattern Verb + -(으)ㄹ래요?
to invite someone.
This means “Do you want to [verb]?” or “Wanna [verb]?”
If the verb stem ends in a consonant → add -을래요.
If the verb stem ends in a vowel → add -ㄹ래요.
It’s a polite but friendly way to ask if someone wants to do something or to suggest an idea.
Let’s practice this grammar more in this lesson.
