Dialogue

Lesson Transcript

Do you know how to say you want to do something in Korean?
Welcome to Three Step Korean Practice by KoreanClass101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to say you want to do something.
Let’s look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
아빠, 이번 학기에 낚시 동아리에 들어가고 싶어요.
Appa, ibeon hakgie naksi dongarie deureogago sipeoyo.
Dad, I want to join the fishing club this semester.
그래? 왜 그 동아리에 들어가고 싶어?
Geurae? Wae geu dongarie deureogago sipeo?
Really? Why do you want to join that club?
We use -고 싶어요 to express our own desire to do something. But, you can’t use -고 싶어요 to talk about what someone else wants to do.
When you're talking about a third person—like your friend, sibling, or parent—you need to use -고 싶어해요 instead.
Let’s practice this grammar more in this lesson.
