Today, we will be discussing Korean food. If you never had the food before, man, are you in for a surprise. It is so flavorful, juicy, tender, and spicy if you like that kind of stuff. It’s just a crazy party in your mouth. So you are going to need this phrase to express how much you like it. Delicious in Korean is, 맛있어요 (masisseoyo). One time slowly, 맛있어요 (masisseoyo). Now this word we might have a little bit of a problem breaking it down by syllable. This is because the consonants carry over to the next syllable. So please pay attention as I will be speaking very slowly. 맛-있-어-요 (ma-si-sseo-yo). One more time, it’s 맛있어요 (masisseoyo).
The first three parts of this word are connected. Listen closely once again, 맛있어요 (masisseoyo). Now like I said, if you haven’t had Korean food, it’s really 맛있어요 (masisseoyo). But there are certain dishes that are just so good. It’s really delicious. So in Korean, you express it by saying 진짜 맛있어요 (jinjja masisseoyo). And even more than that, there is 너무 맛있어요 (neomu masisseoyo) which means too delicious. It’s too good you know like I am about to die. It’s so good, too good. Anyway, so using this 맛있어요 (masisseoyo), we can now ask the staff what they recommend or rather what they think is delicious. In Korean, what do you recommend is, 뭐가 맛있어요 (mwoga masisseoyo)? Literally this means, what is delicious but it’s basically asking for their recommendation.
Let’s hear it again. 뭐가 맛있어요 (mwoga masisseoyo)? The first word 뭐 (mwo) means what. 가 (ga) does not have any meaning. It’s simply an object marker. Let’s hear it together one more time, 뭐가 (mwoga). This is followed by delicious which once again is 맛있어요 (masisseoyo). Altogether it’s 뭐가 맛있어요 (mwoga masisseoyo)?
Okay. To close our today’s lesson, we’d like for you to practice what you’ve learned. I will provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you are responsible for shouting it out loud. You will have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So 화이팅 (hwaiting)!
Delicious - 맛있어요 (masisseoyo).
What do you recommend or what is delicious - 뭐가 맛있어요 (mwoga masisseoyo)?
All right, that’s going to do it for today.
