| First isㅑ(ya). This is the ㅑ(ya) sound in 야채 (ya-chae) "vegetables," 야구 (ya-gu) "baseball," and other words. |
| ㅛ (yo) is the ㅛ (yo) sound in 요리 (yo-ri) "cuisine," 요즘 (yo-jeum) "recently," and other words. |
| ㅠ (yu) is the ㅠ (yu) sound in 휴가 (hyu-ga) "holiday," 유명 (yu-myeong) "famous," and other words. |
| ㅕ(yeo) is theㅕ(yeo) sound in 여름 (yeo-reum) "summer," 여행 (yeo-haeng) "travel," and other words. |
| These four vowels are called diphthongs. |
| To make theㅑ(ya) sound: start with your mouth open wide as if saying ㅏ (a) (ah as in "father"). Then, add a slight i sound at the beginning. It's similar to the ya in the English word "yard." |
