Do you know the counter for places? Find out at the end of this video!
Hi everybody! I'm Alisha.
안녕하세요. 노경진입니다.
Welcome to Korean Counters for Beginners, where you'll learn how to count all sorts of different objects in Korean! Seonsaengnim (선생님), which counter will we learn in this lesson?
First, let's take a look at what sorts of objects can be counted with the counter.
When you count cars, you can use the counter...
This counter can be used when counting any kind of vehicle or machine such as cars, bicycles, computers and mobile phones.
Okay, let's count from 1 to 10 with this counter.
한 대
두 대
세 대
네 대
다섯 대
여섯 대
일곱 대
여덟 대
아홉 대
열 대
Like most of the counters, the sound of the counter should be changed when you're reading the numbers from 5 to 10, which have batchim.
daseot ddae(다섯 때) not daseot dae(다섯 대)
yeoseot ddae(여섯 때) not yeoseot dae(여섯 대)
ilgop ddae(일곱 때) not ilgop dae (일곱 대)
yedeol ddae(여덜 때) not yedeol dae (여덜 대)
ahop ddae(아홉 때) not ahop dae (아홉 대)
yeol ddae(열 때) not yeol dae (열 대)
Okay. Now let's take a look at some sample sentences using this counter. Listen carefully to what sorts of objects can be counted with this counter.
자동판매기가 세 대 있습니다.
There are 3 vending machines.
저는 휴대전화가 두 대 있습니다.
I have 2 mobile phones.
이 주차장에는 자동차가 여덟 대 있습니다.
There are 8 car in this parking lot.
Now it's time for a Quiz. I'm going to ask you a question in English. Please answer the question in Korean. Are you ready? Be sure to use the right counter.
How many cars are there?
차가 열 대 있습니다.
How many computers do you have?
컴퓨터를 한 대 갖고 있습니다.
Do you know the counter for places? The answer is..
This counter can be used when counting the number of places. For example, when you count the number of museums that you visited during your trip, you can use this counter. This counter literally means "place" so this word can be used for purposes other than counting. For example, you can also use this word to point out a place such as "this place" and "that place." Seonsaengnim (노선생님) will give you an example.
이번 유럽여행에서 나는 박물관을 다섯 곳 방문했습니다.
During the trip to Europe, I visited 5 museums.
Okay, everyone. That's it for this lesson. We'll see you next time!

Hi Kara,

Thank you for posting. The object marking particle 을/를 is used after the object of a sentence. 이/가 are subject marking particles.

We have a lesson series that helps you understand particles, please check it out when you have the time:

Hi Kwan Yoo,

Your name would be written as 관유 if your last name is Kwan. If your last name is Yoo, it would be 유관.

Best,
