Seol: 안녕하세요. 윤설입니다.
Yujin: 안녕하세요. 유진입니다.
Keith: Hi Keith here. He Was All Right.
Seol: He was all right.
Keith: 그거 무슨 뜻인가요?
Seol: 인성은 잘 생겼었어요. 괜찮았어요.
Keith: 괜찮았어요. He was all right. 괜찮았지? So 이전 이야기를 설명해 주세요.
Seol: 소연이 지갑을 찾으러 민호의 학교에 갔어요. 그런데 기다리던 민호는 나오지 않고 인성이가 나와서 우연히 인성이랑 만나서 얘기했어요. 근데 인성이 괜찮았어요!
Keith: He was all right. 괜찮았죠?
Seol: 네.
Yujin: 설이 기분이 좋은 거 같아요.
Keith: 왜요?
Yujin: 인성이 괜찮았거든요.
Keith: All right. So today 오늘의 대화는 뭐에 대해서 얘기하는 거예요?
Seol: 소연이 집에 와서 친구랑 핸드폰으로 통화를 해요. 그래서 무슨 일이 있었다고 막 얘기를 한 다음에 인성이 괜찮았다고 말해요.
Keith: So let’s listen in.
DIALOGUE

(2)소연: 아빠, 저예요.
(3)아빠: 어, 그래.
(4)소연: 다녀왔습니다.
(5)아빠: 오늘 지갑은 받았니?
(6)소연: 네, 받았어요.

(8)소연: 다 있는데...
(9)아빠: 다 있는데 뭐?
(10)소연: 아니에요. 아빠 저 방에서 좀 쉴게요.
(11)아빠: 어, 그래, 그래. 좀 쉬어라.
(12)소연: 어? 지혜다. 여보세요?
(13)지혜: 안녕 소연아!
(14)소연: 응. 지혜야.
(15)지혜: 오늘 지갑 받았어?
(16)소연: 응. 받았어. 카드까지 그대로 있었어. 근데, 지갑 주운 사람이 좀 이상한 사람이었어.
(17)지혜: 진짜? 그래도 받아서 다행이야!
(18)소연: 응! 근데, 있잖아, 그 사람 친구는 정말 괜찮았어.
(19)지혜: 친구까지 만났어? 뭐야... 관심 생긴 거야?

Keith: Who's it?

Keith: Dad, it's me.

Keith: Oh, okay.

Keith: I came back.

Keith: Did you get your wallet today?
(6)소연: 네, 받았어요.
Keith: Yeah, I got it.
(7)아빠: 카드는 다 그대로 있어?
Keith: And everything was in there?
(8)소연: 다 있는데...
Keith: Everything was, but...B
(9)아빠: 다 있는데 뭐?
Keith: ut what?
(10)소연: 아니에요. 아빠 저 방에서 좀 쉴게요.
Keith: Oh, nothing. Dad, I am going to go to my room and get some rest.
(11)아빠: 어, 그래, 그래. 좀 쉬어라.
Keith: All right. Rest a bit.
(12)소연: 어? 지혜다. 여보세요?
Keith: Oh Jihye. Hello?
(13)지혜: 안녕 소연아!
Keith: Hey, Soyeon.
(14)소연: 응. 지혜야.
Keith: Hey, Jihye.
(15)지혜: 오늘 지갑 받았어?
Keith: Did you get your wallet today?
(16)소연: 응. 받았어. 카드까지 그대로 있었어. 근데, 지갑 주운 사람이 좀 이상한 사람이었어.
Keith: Yeah I got it. Even my credit cards were in there. But the person who picked up my wallet, he was a little strange.
(17)지혜: 진짜? 그래도 받아서 다행이야!
Keith: Really? But it's a relief that you got it.
(18)소연: 응! 근데, 있잖아, 그 사람 친구는 정말 괜찮았어.
Keith: Yeah. But, that person’s friend was really okay.
(19)지혜: 친구까지 만났어? 뭐야... 관심 생긴 거야?
Keith: You met his friend? So What? Now you are a little interested?
(20)소연: 응! 조금...
Keith: Yeah... a little.
POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Keith: Seol, how did you feel about the conversation?
Seol: 소연이랑 아빠랑 안 친하고요.
Keith: 왜 안 친해요?
Seol: 대화가 짧아요.
Keith: 근데 원래 그러지 않아요?
Seol: 전 아빠랑 막 수다 떨거든요.
Keith: 그래요?
Seol: 네
Keith: 그리고 집에 올 때 ‘다녀왔습니다.’ 그러고 막 오늘 이거 했다 오늘 이거 했다 그런거요?
Seol: 어, 아빠한테 오늘 나 이거 했고 이거 했고 이것도 샀고 이것도 먹었고 막 이렇게 설명하는데 수다쟁이인가 내가?
Keith: 유진씨도 그래요?
Yujin: 음...설이랑 조금 달라요.
Keith: 어떻게요?
Yujin: 소연이 아빠가 다정하신 분 같아요. 지갑을 잘 찾았는지 물어봐 주시잖아요.
Keith: Well I think this is a very typical conversation between a father and his daughter, 아니에요?
Yujin: 맞아요. 설이가 이상한 거예요.
Seol: 이상한 사람 아니에요. 저는 괜찮은 사람이에요.
Keith: 괜찮아요?
Seol: 네
Keith: Well let’s get into the vocab.

Keith: I will clean. So mom, leave it as it is.
Seol: 그거 내꺼 아니니까 만지지 말고 그대로 놔둬.
Keith: That’s not mine. So don’t touch it. Leave it as it is. So 오늘의 이야기에는 어떻게 나왔어요?
Seol: 소연이 아빠가 소연이에게 물어봐요. 소연아, 카드는 그대로 다 있었니?
Keith: Was everything in there the way it is. Okay our next word is
Seol: 쉬다
Keith: To rest. Now we use this
Seol: Keith, 힘든데 좀 쉴까요?
Keith: 좋아요. 좀 쉬어요.
Seol: 이렇게 쓰는 말이죠?
Keith: 진짜 쉬고 싶어요?
Seol: 아니요. 전 이거 재밌어서 더 하고 싶어요.
Keith: Well to rest is to rest but we also use it for 쉬는 날 resting days or days we don’t work. The days we don’t go to school.
Seol: 토요일 일요일, 쉬는 날
Keith: What’s another 쉬다
Seol: 나 하루 쉴래.
Keith: I want to take the day off. I want to rest the day. All right our next word is
Seol: 이상하다
Keith: To be strange. Now the way it came out in today’s conversation is
Seol: 이상한 사람
Keith: And it’s modifying 사람. So when you have a descriptive verb before an adjective, you conjugate it a little differently. So here it’s not necessarily an adjective but it’s used as an adjective. So here we are conjugating it a little differently 받침이 있을 때, you add 은. 받침이 없을 때 you add ㄴ. So here it’s
Seol: 이상한
Keith: And then you have a noun whatever it’s describing afterwards. So 유진씨, 설은 이상한 사람이에요?
Yujin: 아니요. 설은 이상한 사람이 아니에요.
Keith: 그럼 제가 이상한가?
Seol: Keith는 아마도 조금 이상한 사람인 것 같아요.
Keith: 그래요?
Seol: 네
Keith: All right. So strange person. When you have it in front, this might be getting into grammar more than vocab and phrases but when you have adjective in front or a word that’s used as an adjective in front, you conjugate it a little differently. All right our next word is
Yujin: 관심이 생기다
Keith: To start to have some interest. Now let’s take a look at the verb 생기다. 그거 무슨 뜻이에요?
Seol: 없었는데 짠! 하고 생겼어요. 예를 들어서 제가 친구가 없었는데 짠! 새로운 친구가 생겼어요. 그리고 Keith한테 관심이 없었는데 짠! 하고 새롭게 Keith한테 관심이 생겼어요.
Keith: 그런데 그거 뭐예요? 짠!
Yujin: 네, 꼭 짠! 할 필요 없고 점점 생길수도 있어요.
Keith: 점점 생길수도 있고요. So it’s when something wasn’t there originally but either as 설 says 짠 all of a sudden, it comes about. It comes into being or it can come into being little by little. Okay our last word is
Yujin: 다녀오다
Keith: To go and come back. 자, 이 단어는 어떻게 쓰는 거예요?
Seol: 딩동. 엄마, 다녀왔습니다.
Keith: 이거는 어디서 쓰는 말이에요?
Yujin: 대부분 어딘가에 갔다가 돌아올 때, 우리는 ‘다녀왔습니다.’라고 얘기하고요. 또 어딘가에 갔다가 또 돌아올 거면 ‘다녀오겠습니다.’라고 얘기해요.
Keith: So you use this mostly at home right? 부모님한테 다녀오겠습니다 I will go and come back. 근데 애들이 다녀오겠습니다 그렇게 말하지 않죠?
Seol: 다녀오겠습니다는 존댓말이니까 엄마 나 갔다 올게 이렇게 말하기도 해요.
Keith: So little less polite. So can we break that down?
Seol: 갔다 오다
Keith: To go and come back, same thing but here it’s a little less polite. All right so let’s take a look at the grammar point 오늘의 grammar point가 뭐예요?
Yujin: 서 다행이다
Keith: Because of something, relief. Now that something can be replaced by any verb. So 오늘의 대화에는 어떻게 나왔어요?
Seol: 그래도 받아서 다행이야.
Keith: Let’s break that down real quick.
Seol: 그래도 받아서
Keith: Because you received it
Seol: 다행이야
Keith: It’s a relief. Now 이거는 자주 쓰는 표현이죠?
Seol: 네
Keith: 특히 여자들.
Seol: 네?
Keith: 아닌가요?
Yujin: 아니 뭔가 걱정하는 일이 있었는데 잘 해결됐을 때 아, 다행이다, 뭐뭐해서 다행이다라고 다들 잘 쓰는 거 같아요.
Seol: 예를 들어서 어제 학교에서 퀴즈시험이 있었어요. 근데 ‘공부해서 다행이다.’라고 생각했어요.
Keith: So yeah let’s have a couple of example sentences then.
Yujin: 못 만날 줄 알았는데 만나서 다행이다.
Keith: I didn’t think I could meet you but since we met, it’s a relief.
Seol: 어, 날씨 정말 춥네? 따뜻하게 입어서 다행이다.
Keith: Oh it’s really cold today because I bundled up, it’s a relief.
Yujin: 아 비가 오네? 우산 갖고 와서 다행이다.
Keith: It’s raining but because I have my umbrella, it’s a relief. All right now our next grammar point is
Seol: 까지
Keith: And 이거는 원래 beginner level이 아니에요?
Yujin: 네, 맞아요. 무엇무엇부터 무엇무엇까지.
Keith: So maybe 1시부터 2시까지 From 1 o’ clock to 2 o’ clock but 까지 is until. 근데 쓸 때 until이라고 쓰죠?
Seol/Yujin: 네, 오늘은 7시까지 일해.
Keith: So until 7 o’ clock, work. 이 상황에도 until도 되죠?
Seol: 네, 가드까지 그대로 있었어라는 말은 다른 것도 그대로 있었고 제일 중요한 카드 마저도 그대로 있었다.
Keith: So it’s 그대로 as it was 카드까지 until the cards. So everything the way it was, until the cards, nothing was missing even the most important things the cards were there. Can we have another example?
Seol: 나랑 제일 친한 유진까지도 시간이 없다고 나랑 놀아 주지 않았어.
Outro
Keith: 만약에 친구가 안 놀아 주는데 So nobody would hang out with her even her best friend. So you are counting everybody until the best friend. The best friend is supposed to hang out with you but she doesn’t 제일 친한 친구까지 and that’s the case in today’s conversation. Everything was there even the cards, the most important things. Until the cards were there. So you are counting, counting, counting even the cards are there, until the cards. All right, so I think that’s going to do it. See you later.
