Welcome to Fun &Easy Korean by KoreanClass101.com!
Do you know a great way to learn Korean while also having fun?
여러분, 안녕하세요. 김소피입니다.
Hi everyone! I’m Sofie.
And I'm Alisha.
In this lesson, you'll learn everything you need to know about Korean dramas!
Word lists and grammar books are great for learning the basics, but learning natural speech that way can be quite a daunting task.
But what if there aren’t any native speakers in your area?
And what if you want to see how people react in exciting or emotional situations which aren’t talked about in most textbooks?
Well, in this video, we will look at Korean dramas where native speakers speak and react in every possible situation!
And luckily enough, Korean dramas are very easy to find online.
Watching television in a foreign language is a great way to observe live actors’ body language and tone of voice.
With this, you can feel the emotion of the actor, and match it to the words.
Also, as a learner, you often don’t see how native speakers express anger, love or introspection in real life, but in a movie, you are able to observe all of these through candid moments on film.
Before we jump in to our list, let’s talk about some good habits when using entertainment to learn a language.
It’s not just sitting and watching, of course.
First, turn on the English subtitles.
When you are a beginner, seeing the English subtitles at the same time as listening to the spoken Korean will help to train your ear
And you can also follow the emotions of the actors without being totally lost.
When you are an intermediate to advanced learner, switch to Korean subtitles to see what is being spoken, and fill in any gaps in your listening comprehension.
Next, keep a notebook open, so you can write down new words, and keep track of them.
You can then look them up in a dictionary, and try to memorize them later on.
The following shows which we’ll recommend will be full of slang, and jargon about specific topics; so even advanced learners will find something new to look up!
Let’s get started!
The first drama on our list is "Mr. Sunshine."
미스터 션샤인 (miseuteo syeonsyain)

Another key story element is that he meets and falls in love with the daughter of an aristocrat.
The show has a high production quality and stunning cinematography, and it was written by one of South Korea’s top screenwriters.
Because it takes place in the 1870s, the spoken Korean is old-fashioned, and thus this show a great resource for learning older words and phrases.
