Hi, everyone, I’m Jaehwi, welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. In this video, we'll be talking about 10 sad words. Let’s begin.
1. 감정이 상하다 (gamjeongi sanghada) "hurt"
So here 감정 (gamjeong) means “emotion”, and 상하다 (sanghada) means “to be hurt”.
You know, like, if someone says something bad to you, like, then you can say something like
그 말을 들으니까 감정이 상했어 (Geu mareul deureunikka gamjeongi sanghaesseo), which literally means “after hearing that, my heart hurt,” or “after hearing that, I feel hurt."
2. 낙담한 (nakdamhan) "discouraged"
Here we have the word 낙(nak), which means something like “falling” down from somewhere. So it gives me the feeling that, like, my emotion just fell off from somewhere, from the top.
그 말을 듣고서 낙담했어. (Geu mareul deutgoseo nakdamhaesseo.) "I'm discouraged after hearing that."
3. 비참한 (bichamhan) "miserable"
For example, you can say,
사랑하는 사람과 헤어져서 비참한 하루하루를 보내고 있습니다. (Saranghaneun saramgwa heeojyeoseo bichamhan haruharureul bonaego itsseumnida. ) which means that ”since I got broken up with someone I really love, I am having a miserable life day-by-day."
4. 속상한 (soksanghan) "upset"
원하던 일이 제대로 안 돼서 속상하다. (Wonhadeon iri jedaero an dwaeseo soksanghada.) “The thing didn’t go well as I wanted, so I am upset."
5. 슬픈 (seulpeun) "sad"
So you can use this adjective about person, about movie, anything, so for example,
슬픈 영화를 보고 나니까 나도 슬퍼졌다. (Seulpeun yeonghwareul bogo nanikka nado seulpeojyeotda.) "After seeing a sad movie, I became sad."
6. 실망한 (silmanghan) "disappointed"
So for example, you're having a second date, and you see the other person acting very strange, rude to the other person, then you can say that,
그 사람한테 실망했어. (Geu saramhante silmanghaesseo.) "I am disappointed in him.”
7. 좌절한 (jwajeolhan) "frustrated"
더 이상 뭘 해야 될지 모를 정도로 좌절했어. (Deo isang mwol haeya doelji moreul jeongdoro jwajeolhaesseo.) "I am so frustrated that I don't know cannot imagine what to do, I cannot think about what to do next."
8. 충격을 받은 (chunggyeogeul badeun) "shocked"
Literally it means something like “I got a shock”. So when you hear a news that is very surprising but also negative, you can say that
그 소식을 듣고 정말 충격을 받았어. (Geu sosigeul deutgo jeongmal chunggyeogeul badasseo.) “Since I heard the news, I really got shocked”, “I’m really shocked.“
9. 혼란스러운 (hollanseureoun) "confused"
뭘 해야 될지 몰라서 혼란스러워. (Mwol haeya doelji mollaseo hollanseureowo.) which means that "I am confused because I don't know what to do."
10. 지친 (jichin) "exhausted"
when you're just tired you can say that 피곤해(Pigonhae) ”I feel tired.”
But when you are very retired and have no energy to do something else, we can say that 지쳤어 (Jichyeosseo) “I am exhausted."
Ok, that's all 10 sad words that we have in this video. If you want to learn more about sad, happy, and some interesting expressions, make sure that you visit KoreanClass101.com, and I’ll see you next time.
