Becky: Asking directions. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask and understand basic directions in Korean.
Body
Becky: Here's the informal way to ask 'Where is the subway station?' in Korean.
Kyejin: [Normal] 지하철역이 어디예요?(jihacheoryeogi eodiyeyo?)
Becky: First is a word meaning 'subway station'
Kyejin: [Normal] 지하철역 [Slow] 지하철역 (jihacheoryeok)
Becky: Next is the subject marking particle
Kyejin: [Normal] 이 [Slow] 이(i)
Becky: Next is the word meaning 'where'
Kyejin: [Normal] 어디 [Slow] 어디(eodi)
Becky: Last is the word meaning 'to be'
Kyejin: [Normal] 예요 [Slow] 예요(yeyo)
Becky: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning 'Where is the subway station?'

Cultural Insight
Becky: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Kyejin: Do you remember how to say "Excuse me." in Korean from lesson 5? That's right. It is 저기요(jeogiyo.). So if you ever get lost and want to ask for directions in Korea, you can start a conversation with a stranger by saying 저기요(jeogiyo.). And do not forget to thank them afterwards by saying 고맙습니다(gomapsseumnida.).
