In today’s lesson, we will introduce you to another phrase that will provide you with another tool to learn from the people around you. Today, we are going to work on improving our reading and pronunciation. When you come across a word, you can’t read, you can use this phrase to get your answer. In Korean, how do you read this is 이거 어떻게 읽어요 (igeo eotteoke ilgeoyo)? One time slowly, it’s 이거 어떻게 읽어요 (igeo eotteoke ilgeoyo)? And now by syllable, 이-거 어-떻-게 읽-어-요 (i-geo- eo-tteo-ke il-geo-yo)? Now one more time, it’s 이거 어떻게 읽어요 (igeo eotteoke ilgeoyo)?
The first word is this 이거 (igeo). One time slowly, 이거 (igeo). And now by syllable, 이-거 (i-geo). This is followed by 어떻게 (eotteoke) which is how. 어떻게 (eotteoke). So, to recap, we have this how. The last part is 읽어요 (ilgeoyo). This part means read. So altogether, we have this how read 이거 어떻게 읽어요 (igeo eotteoke ilgeoyo) which means how do you read this. Once you get the reading, you can follow this up with what does it mean. In Korean, what does it mean is 무슨 뜻이에요 (museun tteusieyo)? And now by syllable, 무-슨 뜻-이-에-요 (mu-seun tteut-i-e-yo)? The first word 무슨 (museun) means what kind. Let’s break it down and hear it one more time. 무슨 (museun). This is followed by 뜻 (tteut) which is meaning. The next word is 이에요 (ieyo). So this means is but 뜻 (tteut) is right next to 이에요 (ieyo). And when they are together, they change slightly in pronunciation. So listen carefully. 무슨 뜻이에요 (museun tteusieyo)? Do you hear the S? 무슨 뜻이에요 (museun tteusieyo)? Literally we have what kind meaning is or what does this mean.
Okay. To close our today’s lesson, we’d like for you to practice what you’ve learned. I will provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you are responsible for shouting it out loud. You will have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So 화이팅 (hwaiting)!
How do you read this - 이거 어떻게 읽어요 (igeo eotteoke ilgeoyo)?
What does it mean - 무슨 뜻이에요 (museun tteusieyo)?

:razz:Hello, Colin

Thanks for letting us know the typo. We've just corrected the line. 감사합니다.

And for sure, I understand it should be not easy to read sentences with many particles and conjunctions. Even people at the advanced level also has the issue. We have review track that you can hear and repeat in normal speed. I hope this type of audio files can help you improve your Korean pronunciation. Also, please let us know if you have any questions about Korean.

Thank you.

The most challenging aspect is pronouncing quickly, especially when the sentences carry particles/conjunctions to connect what would otherwise be two separate, but complete sentences.

Hello,

The cultural insight section has a typo:

There are tons of combinations, and getting them all WRITE can

only be mastered with time. This will be intimidating, but all the phonetic changes make

sense linguistically. It simply takes time to get used to these changes.
