Hi, everybody! I’m Amy.
Welcome back to KoreanClass101.com’s 삼분 한국어, the fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Korean.
In the last lesson, we learned how to say "Can you write it down?" in Korean.
Today, we are going to learn how to find a place we can exchange money and also, learn what to say at the window.
When traveling in Korea, you'll need to change your money to Korean Won. You can usually do this with an ATM, but if you can’t find an ATM what are you going to say?
You could ask someone friendly-looking
"Where can I exchange money?"
환전하다 means "to exchange money"
Once you find a place, you'll want to know how to ask for large bills or small bills.
Thankfully, all bills are fairly small:
the largest is 오만원 50,000 won which is about 50 dollars and the smallest is 천원 1000 won.
Then, the coins are 10 won, 50 won, 100 won, and 500 won!
When you exchange money, you will be asked to write details on a form. Also the person changing your money will ask,
"How much will you change?"
To answer, all you have to say is the amount (using a Chinese-based number),
the name of your currency, plus (이)에요.
So if you're exchanging two thousand dollars, you'd say,
You can also say 불 for "dollar," which Koreans use more often..
Now it’s time for Amy’s insights.
You can certainly exchange money at the airport. But you can get better rates at local bank. You will find it fairly easy so no worries. Just don’t forget, you can’t exchange coins!
That's all for this lesson! In today’s lesson, we learned what to say when exchanging money. In the next lesson, we’ll cover how to talk about your likes and dislikes with 좋아요 and 싫어요.
I’ll be waiting for you in our next 삼분 한국어 lesson!
