Hi, everyone, I'm Jaehwi. In this video, we'll be talking about 10 foods that will kill you faster. So let’s begin.
1. 가공육 (gagongyuk) "processed meat"
It's kind of getting trended to not to have 가공육 (gagongyuk), "processed meat" in Korea, so people usually have the 닭가슴살 (dakgaseumsal), “chicken breast” meat, which is not processed. You can join the trend and just enjoying more 닭가슴살 (dakgaseumsal), “chicken breast” meat, you know, with the others.
(Haembeogeoe sayongdoeneun gogineun botong gagongyugimnida.) "The meat used in hamburgers are usually processed meat."
2. 감자칩 (gamjachip) "potato chips"
I think I haven't had any 감자칩 (gamjachip) for around four months, and I feel a little bit healthier than before, I think. In a sentence, we can say,
(Sareul ppaegi wihaeseo gamjachibeul meokji anko itsseumnida.) "I do not eat potato chips to lose weight."
3. 냉동식품 (naengdong sikpum) "frozen meals"
So here we have 냉동 (naengdong), which is “frozen”.
식품 (sikpum) “meals; food”
Even though I know that it's not good for the health, it is not easy to stop eating frozen meals 냉동식품 (naengdong sikpum), because it's cheap and it’s easy to store, especially if you live alone or if you have a small family.
(Yeohaengeul gagi jeone naengdongsikpumeul modu meogeotsseumnida.) "I ate all the frozen meals before I went on a trip."
4. 마가린 (magarin) "margarine"
In Korean we read G as /g/, so we read "margarine” as 마가린 (magarin). So when I was kid, actually, I like to put a piece of "margarine” 마가린 (magarin) on the top of warm rice. When you put the piece of 마가린 (magarin) on the top of the rice, it melt and it covers the rice. I don't eat it anymore, because I know it’s not good for my health. In a sentence, I can say,
(Bap wie magarineul noeumyeon jeongmal masitsseumnida.) "It tastes so good if you put margarine on top of the rice."
5. 베이컨 (beikeon) "bacon"
Some people say they're like samgyeopsal, it's kind of the bacon, like you know, samgyeopsal is the thick pork belly, and if you just slice a little bit more, it becomes bacon. Some people call them, like, it’s Korean bacon.
(Eomeoniga huraipaene beikeoneul guwo jusyeotsseumnida.) "My mother cooked bacon on the frying pan."
6. 사탕 (satang) "candy"
In Korea, there are actually a lot of interesting flavored candies you can find, for example, 인삼 캔디 (insam kaendi) “ginseng-flavored candy”, 누룽지맛 캔디 (nurungjimat kaendi) “candy with flavor of cooked rice”, which is actually my favorite. It tastes like overcooked rice and also sweet. I think many of my friends like that after they tried it, so if you haven't tried, try 누룽지맛 캔디 (nurungjimat kaendi), which taste like rice.
(Jeoneun nurungjimat satangeul jeil joahamnida.) "I like rice-flavored candy the most."
7. 소다 (soda) "soda"
For soda, we also say 청량음료 (cheongnyangeumnyo), which means “the drink that will make you feel fresh”. In 1998, we had a special soda in South Korea which is called 8.15 콜라 (pariro kolla). 8.15 (pariro) literally means “815”, which is for August 15th, the independence day, and 콜라(kolla) is for “coke”. You know, there are a lot of international brands about, like coca-cola or Pepsi, but in 1998 Korea had the economy crisis so there is a boom of consuming the massive brands more than the brands from other countries, so during the time there was the 콜라(kolla) brand, named 8.15 (pariro), following the date of Independence Day, so that they can meet the demands from the customers who wanted to buy more domestic products.
In a sentence we can say
(Jibeseo sodasureul mandeureo meokgi sijakaetsseumnida.) "I started making soda at home."
8. 에너지 음료 (eneoji eumnyo) "energy drinks"
So here, 에너지(eneoji) is for “energy”, and 음료(eumnyo) is for “drinks”. Actually we have quite a lot, like, we have some drinks with ginseng in some, so we can say
(Eneoji eumnyoga piryohal ttaeneun insami deureoga inneun eumnyoreul meoksseumnida.) "When I need energy drinks, I drink the ones with ginseng."
9. 인스턴트 라면 (inseuteonteu ramyeon) "instant noodles"
So here we have 인스턴트 (inseutanteu) “instant“, and 라면 (ramyeon) for “noodles“.
Instead of using the word 인스턴트 (inseutanteu), we also say 즉석 (jeukseok), which means that you can make something at the spot.
In Korea it’s very common to have instant noodles 인스턴트 라면 (inseuteonteu ramyeon) as a dinner or breakfast. In that case, you can say,
(Jeoneun achim siksaro inseuteonteu ramyeoneul meogeotsseumnida.) which means that "I had instant noodles for breakfast."
In Korea, actually most of the instant noodles, 인스턴트 라면 (inseuteonteu ramyeon), are spicy, so we have to make sure that you pick the right one if you don't like something spicy.
I think I started seeing this kind of 전자레인지용 팝콘 (jeonjareinjiyong papkon) just few years ago, but these days is very popular, so people just buy it, put it into the 전자레인지 (jeonjareinji) “microwave“, and just make popcorn easily. In a sentence, we can say
(Naeil yeonghwagwane gagi wihaeseo jeonjareinjiyong papkoneul satsseumnida.) "I bought microwave popcorn to go to the movie theater tomorrow."
Ok, that's all 10 foods that will kill you faster, which food do you like the most? Please leave us a comment in Korean, make sure to subscribe and be healthy. I'll see you next time.
