appropriate usage for 됐어 (dwaesso) vs.괜찮아 (gwaench

Postby imeldavilla4653 » September 28th, 2011 5:33 pm

Hi everyone!

My question is on the contextual usage of 됐어 (dwaesso) vs.괜찮아 (gwaenchanha).

I know they both somehow mean "ok" or "it's ok." What context would one be better used than the other?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'm Jaehwi from Koreanclass101.com

As you mentioned, 됐어 and 괜찮아 both mean 'It's okay'. But 됐어 literally means 'that's it' so people use this term for negative cases.

For example, people can say the term when they don't want to continue argument or fight.

So if you'd like to say 'It's okay' in positive case, I'd like to recommend you use 괜찮아 instead.

I hope this helps.

Thank you. 감사합니다.
