for lack of a better place

Postby Jheise » January 12th, 2009 1:02 pm

Hey all,

I have been a long time Korean Student, 5 years ago I took an intensive 8 hour a day (12 including homework) 5 days a week year and a half long Korean language course. While I learned Korean "fairly" proficiently I have found it hard to maintain my skills and find motivation to move forward. I stumbled across your podcast the other day and have been hooked! Thank you for your time and effort, I know how difficult this language can be, and I really like how fun your team has made it. It has allowed me to jump into learning again and actually enjoy something that should be enjoyed; learning to talk to new people from around the world!

That sounds like it was pretty intensive. Defense Language Institute, maybe?

I'm glad you found a way to enjoy language study again. ^^

I guess you were learning Korean like it was your job (har har, it was :P). I've got a buddy who went through the DLI for Chinese.

at the time (ages ago :D ) that was one of the reasons i almost decided not to refuse military service for reasons of conscience: we were still in the middle of the cold war and i was offered to follow a russian language course... however, my conscience was too strong so i did civil service instead. :)
jheise: i admire your persistence and discipline!

welcome to the forums Jheise! Great first post - thanks for sharing your story :)

I think you have a unique background in Korean and you'll be able to provide an interesting perspective. I know I am personally interested in your experience with the intensive Korean language program you attended.
