| Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for expressing your ability to do something. |

| Eric: "I can finish by tomorrow." |
| Lyn: 내일까지 끝낼 수 있어요. (naeilkkaji kkeunnael su isseoyo.) |
| Lyn: [slow] 내일까지 끝낼 수 있어요. (naeilkkaji kkeunnael su isseoyo.) |
| Eric: The pattern for expressing your ability to do something has 4 elements. First, the noun, "tomorrow." |
| Lyn: 내일 (naeil). |
| Eric: Second, the preposition, "by", "until." |
| Lyn: 까지 (kkaji). |
| Eric: Third, the verb stem, "to finish." |
| Lyn: 끝내 (kkeunnae). |
| Eric: And last, the phrase "to be able to." |
| Lyn: ㄹ 수 있어요 (l su isseoyo). |
| Eric: Altogether, we have... "I can finish by tomorrow." |
| Lyn: 내일까지 끝낼 수 있어요. (naeilkkaji kkeunnael su isseoyo.) [slow] 내일까지 끝낼 수 있어요. (naeilkkaji kkeunnael su isseoyo.) [normal] 내일까지 끝낼 수 있어요. (naeilkkaji kkeunnael su isseoyo.) |

| Eric: This phrase can be translated as "can" or "able to." To say “can do something” you just need to add the verb-stem right before this phrase. Note that for the verbs ending in a consonant, you need to use... |
| Lyn: 을 수 있어요 (-eul su isseoyo) |
| Eric: to mean “can” or “to be able to” |
| Lyn: 내일까지 끝낼 수 있어요. (naeilkkaji kkeunnael su isseoyo.) |
| Eric: So remember that to express your ability, simply say what you can do by using the verb stem and add |
| Lyn: ㄹ 수 있어요 (l su isseoyo). |
| Eric: Here is another example meaning, "I can go by morning." First, the noun, "morning." |
| Lyn: 아침 (achim). |
| Eric: Second, the preposition, "by", "until." |
| Lyn: 까지 (kkaji). |
| Eric: Third, the verb stem, "to go." |
| Lyn: 가 (ga). |
| Eric: And last, the phrase "to be able to." |
| Lyn: ㄹ 수 있어요 (l su isseoyo). |
