Jaehwi: Hi everyone. I am Jaehwi. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. Okay let’s see what we have. The theme is at the aquarium. In Korean 아쿠아리움 (akuarium).
Okay the first word is 상어 (sangeo) which means “shark.” With that word, you can say 상어를 실제로 보면 진짜 무서울 것 같습니다. (Sangeoreul siljero bomyeon jinjja museoul geot gatsseumnida.) which means “It will be very scary if I see sharks in real life.” Yeah that’s good ah…..
Next we have 문어 (muneo) which means “octopus.” With that word, you can say 문어는 발이 여덟개입니다. (Muneoneun bari yeodeolgaeimnida.) which means “Octopus has 8 legs.”
Next we have 돌고래 (dolgorae) which means “dolphin.” With that word, you can say 감기 걸렸을 때 돌고래 소리를 낼 수 있습니다. (Gamgi geollyeosseul ttae dolgorae sorireul nael su itsseumnida.) which means “When I get a cold, I can make dolphin sounds.” I got a cold a little bit. So let me try. No, ah…
물고기 (mulgogi) which means “fish.” So 물 (mul) means “water” and 고기 (gogi) means “meat.” So it literally means water meat. With that word, you can say 저는 뼈가 많이 있어서 물고기 먹는 것을 싫어합니다. (Jeoneun ppyeoga mani isseoseo mulgogi meongneun geoseul sireohamnida.) which means “I don’t like eating fish because there are too many bones.”
Next we have 오징어 (ojingeo) which means “squid.” With that word, you can say 한국 사람들은 영화관에서 마른 오징어를 먹습니다. (Hanguk saramdeureun yeonghwagwaneseo mareun ojingeoreul meoksseumnida.) which means “Korean people eat dried squids at movie theaters.” So when you see Korean people at the movie theater, you can see people eating something there, you know. It’s a good snack for the movie theater like that.
Okay next we have end. Okay that’s all for this week. Thank you for watching it and I will see you next time. 다음 시간에 뵙겠습니다. (Daeum sigane boepgetsseumnida.) 안녕히 계세요. (Annyeonghi gyeseyo.)
개 (gae) “dog,” 게 (ge) “crab.” 개 (gae), 게 (ge). I believe you see the difference clearly.
