Riding bikes in Korea is very liberating and a great way to meet people in Korea. I love to ride my bike in Korea! There are so many beautiful sites to see in Korea and a bike is the perfect way to see them on a warm day. However, last week I was riding my bike through the streets of Korea when I heard the strangest noise! At first, I couldn’t figure out what in the world would make a noise like that…a high-pitched squealing noise! Then I saw her. There was a girl riding her bike through the streets in Korea, loaded down with groceries…and her bike was screaming in agony! After talking to my new friend in Korea, I asked her if she rides her bike in Korea often. Maybe we could meet again and ride bikes together in Korea. I saw her a few days later, but somehow I don’t think she was even riding the same bike!

You just arrived in Korea, and it was a very long flight. Although your family is excited to have the opportunity to spend three weeks vacationing in Korea, they are all very cranky from the trip. The Korean airline stewardess politely tells your son in Korean, “we are in Korea, so don’t forget your bags!” Your son grumpily tells her in Korean, “I didn’t bring any with me, so don’t worry!” As you apologize to her in Korean, she smiles and tells you in Korean, “It is such a long flight so I never take it personally.” When you arrive at the hotel, the clerk tells your family in Korean, “I work all night, so I’ll be here if you need anything.” Embarrassingly, your daughter snaps back in Korean, “we are all practically adults (which she is not), so I am sure we can handle ourselves.” Again, you find yourself apologizing to a very understanding person in Korean. Upon entering the hotel room you tell your children in Korean, “You are all in horrible moods after the long trip, so take a nap right now!” Then you turn to your very patient and quiet wife and tell her, “however, we are in Korea, so let’s go have some FUN!”

You finally convinced your father that you can be trusted with his credit card to go shopping, which was tough after he received the last bill! But you promise this time…you are only going to Seoul to buy a new sweater. Once you get to the Korean shops though, you see they have the newest Korean fashions for this season out! Well, it won’t hurt to look… As you start looking through the racks, the Korean salespeople approach you, telling you how beautiful you would look in the new fashions. You tell them in Korean, “I cannot buy anything because my father will get angry!” Minutes later another clerk approaches and asks in Korean, “have you seen the latest styles, because they would look fabulous on you!” Promptly, you tell them in Korean, “It doesn’t matter because my father would kill me if I bought them!” Finally, another clerk approaches you and says in Korean, “you should try the new styles because they were made for you!” Unable to fight them off any longer, you reply in Korean, “please, show me your latest styles in SWEATERS, because otherwise my father will kill me!” At least this way you both win…
